As someone who doesn't often call the bank, what sort of information, security or otherwise, do Santander need when you phone up to apply?

I'm just going to wait for it to be online as at the end of the day it is £24 difference (between a 123 account and this account). A 20 min call with an advisor is just too painful. If it was for a £100+ switching bonus on the other hand I would be fine doing it on the phone.

Santander Select can only open accounts between 7am and 11pm :-(
There goes my cunning plan to jump the queues.

Maybe I'm missing something (or maybe you are?), but I'd rather make 5% AER on my money than 3% AER...each and every day of the year...not just for a few months.

Yes, you're right of course - - I wrote my last comment after a long tiring day!

The best return on this Santanader Reg would, I assume, be drip-feeding from a 123 at £200 per month. Which, for the £2400 involved, would earn, according to Martin's calculator (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-regular-savings-accounts#dripfeed)
After drip-feeding the cash for 12 months...

    Total interest earned: £98
£33 from the normal savings & £65 in the regular saver.

If you'd kept the money only in the normal savings account you'd have earned £72 in interest.

Any gain reduces 5.00 a month fee, those with savings in accounts below 3% having exhausted all accounts paying 3%+ will be particularly grateful for this new account. :)

Worth noting payment month runs from the day of opening so you can't deposit now and again on the 1st of the month.

Is this to prevent more than £200 in 30/31 days?.

The STO can be changed on-line

 I completely missed this account, thanks .

Now can someone tell me why it has to be opened by phone or in branch :(
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I've set the wife the task of sorting this today. Hopefully she'll get around to it.
    Thanks for posting.

Edit: I've just noticed this line "Maximum one account per customer, account can only be held in sole name." We have a joint current account, does that mean that a) we can't do this or b) we can have a saver each fed off the one 123 account or c) neither of those two answers?

    Cheers

Edit 2: According to the thread in the "Bank Accounts" forum we can have one each. Nice.

Am i missing something? 5% on 200/ month , total after 12 months 2400 maximum ie £64 versus 3% on 123 account. How much difference are we talking about in terms of interest earned?

That's not an entirely fair comparison though, as this is an account you can have in addition to your 123 account not instead of. Though I agree it's still a pretty paltry amount.

My answer is in the details

    Funding your Regular eSaver
You can deposit up to the maximum monthly deposit limit of £200 in each month*. You can pay into the Regular eSaver by standing order from your Santander current account.
*Your month is calculated by the date that you open your Regular eSaver, e.g. you open the Regular eSaver on the 16th of a month, your month will run from 16th of one month to the 15th of the next month.
    Deposits
You can make any number of standing order payments into the Regular eSaver in a month and your monthly deposit amount can vary each month, provided that the applicable monthly limit of £200 is not exceeded. You don’t have to deposit into the Regular eSaver every month
    Paying in by standing order
Payments will be sent Monday to Friday. Please make sure that your standing order gives you enough time for your payment to reach the account before the last day of your funding month. For example if you set up your standing order for the last day of your month and this is a Saturday, your payment won’t reach us until the following month.

Account only made available on 14-03-2016.

    As per my post #3674:

Although an e.account Santander have not yet set up their system that one can do it all on-line .. I am told that this will come. In the meantime it is either a phone call to set it up or a Branch visit.
