Thanks Mary - I did wonder why it hadn't been mentioned before if it was the case.
Strange though, because when I entered my postcode (Yorkshire) into the savings homepage, I didn't get the option of a RS account, just a notice account. Yet when I entered a postcode nearer to Darlington geographically I did.
I'll send an application form then, and keep my fingers crossed.
Ahhh Speculator - maybe that's why, although it still is on the website.
On second thoughts I think Speculator must be right - the Regular Saver account I saw wasn't the Monthly Saver paying 8%, it's now called Flexisaver paying 4.88%0 -
MONTHLY SUPERSAVER paying 8.00% will be withdrawn w.e.f. close of business 30.9.08.

Thanks for the information - I opened a Scarborough BS 10% regular saver today
It comes with a passbook - how sweet
edit - ah, the city saver - I'd forgot about that. The low monthly deposit is why I didn't open one. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
Hi MoneySavingExperts,
I have updated the first page of this thread with the following information:
- Sainsbury's Internet Saver (feeder account section) interest rate dropped 0.5% as of today down to 5%
- BMW Car Saver withdrawn
- Abbey Fixed Rate Monthly Saver Issue 7 terms and conditions appear to have changed - in addition to the previous rule about withdrawals resulting in 0.1% being earned for that month, there is a rule (which I am sure was not there before) which says that if you make 1 withdrawal then you only get 6.66% gross/AER for the full 12 months (but you can continue to get 7.25% gross/AER fixed if you make no withdrawals)
- Darlington BS Monthly Supersaver withdrawn and deleted from my list (although Darlington BS have yet to delete it from their website, I note post 313 and it has disappeared from moneyfacts.co.uk too)
I shall check this all again next weekend - we shall see how many more rates have dropped and by how much!

just wanted to ask if its worth opening the Halifax International regular saver considering whats happening at the moment.
Will there be better rates in the coming weeks from Banks who want customers?
thanks
I am a born optimist, and believe the current turmoil will end, eventually. i subscribed to the halifax international regular saver, got 10%, it has a substantial monthly saving limit of 2000. it is in the isle of man, which has recently introduced a 50,000 pounds compensation scheme. i however do not think the british government would allow HBOS to go into receivership, so i do not think i will have to call upon the isle of man government. Also, the Lloydstsb/HBOS link up is going to go ahead. I would like other people to give their views, as I always keep an open mind.....Illegitimi non carborundum

Hi everybody,
I have updated the Halifax International entry including the new rules on compensation (up to a maximum of £48,000). I cannot see anything else to change but I shall look again next weekend.
All the best,

HSBC Regular Saver
Interest rate: 8% gross p.a. variable
Monthly payment: £25-250
Miss any payments: No. If you do then the account is closed and paid at flexible saver rate
Penalty-free withdrawals: No
How to open account: In branch or online
Special conditions: You must open a Current Account Plus account (which does not charge a fee but requires £500 per month funding)
Minor corrections to the above are that the Regular Saver is 8% fixed not variable and the current account needed is called 'Current Account Advance' - if you have a 'HSBC Plus' account (or some others) you qualify for their 10% fixed rate regular saver instead..

Thanks for the info, I have now corrected the relevant entry.
