I opened my Barclays Regular 5 months ago, I don't bank with them and didn't get a monthly statement.
Three weeks ago, I visited my local branch and was told that my a/c was set up by default to receive yearly statements. She changed it to monthly and I received my first statement one week later.0 -
Thanks KTF & Speculator. I'd rather go online as I'd prefer to avoid the unnecessary tree-felling for one transaction per month (that wasn't intended for a soapbox btw...)
uugh - I guess that means I need to make another appointment now to open a current account so I can get access to the one I really want. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
You can open up a current account online if you dont mind the delay whilst they send out the paperwork for you to sign, etc.0

If you have more than £500 a month going into a HSBC current account you can ring 0800 130 130 and ask for the 8% fixed regular saver at up to £250 a month
I tried this but was told that as my account hadn't been converted to one of their new style accounts (Current account advance or something like that) that I couldn't open it. The letter I received from them notifying me of the change in account apparently says the account will be converted by the 1st of December. Bit useless really.
When challenged over whether the rate would have gone down by then, the UK based operator told me he didn't know."A weak currency arises from a weak economy, which in turn is the result of a weak government" - Gordon Brown 1992 -0 -

I've just opened a Barclays one as well (while waiting for my Icesave money, hehe).
Since I'm a new customer I went to the branch, and used my drivers licence to open the account. Took me longer than 10 minutes because the employee had a bit of problems with the computer and writing addresses
I asked about the online banking, but it's only available if you have a current account. I don't want one, so set up the statements to be delivered monthly (this way I can check rate, interest and then get tax information).
At least it's a 7.75% AER, better £250 with that than with the 4.8% my natwest esavers pays :rolleyes:Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -

^ hehehe
And about the papers, I know, I don't receive paper statements in my other accounts anymore as I can see everything online, but I'm a bit paranoic about having proof of everything... on the way home I kept thinking that the lady didn't give me any document now as proof that I'd opened the account...Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
