    Good spot Kazza.
How long are Principality's Regular Savers usually available for?

It depends, because this particular offering from Principality first launched this time last year. They withdrew it a few weeks ago and then made it available again this week. I don't think it'll be around for very long - so I would recommend applying this week if possible.

I was one of those who opened the Fixed Rate Bond for 1 year at 7.00% as well as the Regular Saver Bond at 7.00% just over a year ago and had withdrawn most of it last week on maturity. If everyone else has done the same then a litle cashflow problem has occurred. Maybe the e-saver at 5.35% is not high enough to have held the deposits.

The Abbey Fixed Rate Monthly Saver 7 has now been pulled and replaced with v8 offering 6% fixed. Still no online access to it though. Branch only.

  • Hi Does anybody know when the Abbey Regular Saver 7 ended and no 8 came out and can you have both? I did ask this here

  • Hi everybody,

I have updated everything on the first page of this thread.

The following changes have been made:

    - Skipton BS Christmas and Special Saver accounts interest rates have dropped from 6.55% to 5.30% from 5th December (to reflect the November drop in interest rates)

    - Barclays Monthly Savings account now only paying 6% AER for new applicants

    - Halifax International regular saver interest rate reduced to 6% fixed for new applicants (the website no longer even mentions the old rate)

    - Abbey Fixed Rate Monthly Saver now Issue 8 for new applicants, paying 6% for zero withdrawals and 5.51% if you make a withdrawal

    - Abbey Super Fixed Rate Monthly Saver now Issue 4 (Issue 3 paid 10%), paying 8% for zero withdrawals and 7.34% if you make a withdrawal (this is one of those regular savings accounts which you can only get if you take out an investment or other similar product - I generally avoid these)

    - Britannia Home Saver interest rate reduced from 6.5% to 5% from 1st December

    - Abbey Home Saver (Special Issue 1) added to the home buyer list - pays 6.5% AER variable from 1st December (previously 8%) for £100-300 per month if you are aged 16-35 and don't own a home. You can open the account with £100-5,000.

    - Coventry First interest rate reduced from 5.1% to 3.6%. I have now deleted this account from the feeder section as the interest rate is so poor (and the rates quoted above actually include a first year bonus of 0.85%)

    - Principality One Year Regular Saver Bond Issue 5 relaunched paying 7% fixed on £20-500 per month. I have put this in post 4 with the other 12 month accounts. Note that if you miss a payment or close the account early then you will get the lowest tier of the Instant Access account interest rate (recently severely reduced to 0.25% gross p.a.)

    - Tesco Internet Saver (feeder section) - have added a note to say that Martin's Savings Accounts page says that he thinks the interest rate on this account is going to drop disproportionately in the near future

    - I have removed my "updated" tags as the Bank of England base rate has dropped again this month - all the interest rates that you see on the first page of this thread have been updated following the November 1.5% base rate cut. When the December rate cut filters through, I will be placing new "updated" tags

I have also revised my criteria for listing accounts on the first page of this thread. I will list any account which can at least match the third best general savings account on Martin's Savings Accounts page. At the moment, this means that I will list any regular savings account paying at least 5%.

Steveteach, sorry, I do not know when the Abbey Regular Saver Issue 8 was launched. Your passbook should tell you which account you have. I can tell you from experience that if the Abbey staff realise that you have an Issue 7 account then they will not let you open an Issue 8 account - they do not want you to have two issues of this sort of account at the same time. (I remember trying to open a second account years ago as there was nothing in the terms and conditions to say you could only hold one at a time but they would not let me do it. I think I had an Issue 3 account and I was trying to open an Issue 4 account too.)

I shall update this thread again next weekend.

    All the best,
    SS2

    Hi Special_Saver2,

On the first page you seem to have quoted the 'protection' offered to investors (£48K), not that which is offered to 'depositors' (£50K).

    Unless I'm missing something?
  • Hi YorkshireBoy,

Sorry, you are right. I shall amend the entry right now.

Hi all, can someone clarify the payments and matured date for the Abbey (Issue7).

    I opened in January 08. 1st payment 2nd February 08. 13th payment 1st February 09. Becomes a Flex. saver 1st March 09. Is that all correct?

I assume access to the proceeds fully paid up with interest would be 1st March onwards? Is the 7.75% paid on the original account during the 13th month, i.e. 2nd February - 28th February?

    regards
