I am loving it! I put petrol in the car last night and forced myself there and then to add the transaction to the app rather than use the desktop. It was super easy so will definitely be using that to input my transactions as they happen.Sarahwithlove said:
Thanks I will let you know how I get on. How are you finding it with Ynab? Any hiccups yet? I have found it relatively straight forward using the app.SuperFrank88 said:

Thanks I will give it a try. I'm doing a team leader and supervisor apprenticeship through work so they are paying for it. Even better.SuperFrank88 said:

Hi frankSuperFrank88 said:Hi all,
Been a good week so far. Work is going well, gym is going great and I am generally in a good place. OH is getting there now after mumps and is nearly back to full health.
Had a default notice letter through today from one of my creditors so it looks like things are finally going to start happening.
Car is going into the garage tomorrow to have all the work done. Seems like I have been talking about this work getting done for like forever, but it is just because I have been budgeting for it happening which is a positive.
Today I have also signed up to YNAB
too many posts on this forum raving about it and the curiosity got the better of me. So I am currently on the 34 day free trial, but get this.... I emailed them saying I was a student and they have replied saying that I can get a FREE FULL YEAR!! Super happy with that. I have inputted all my numbers into the spreadsheet on YNAB, I just need to start reading/watching info on how to use it to it's full potential. Any hints & tips will be appreciated greatly!

where did you email and what information did you have to give them. I'm doing an apprenticeship and for some places that counts. I have an NUS card so hoping they might accept that.
I just emailed them on the ‘help(at)youneedabudget.com and they replied within half an hour. Well worth asking with your NUS. What apprenticeship are you doing?Frank
The bit I love the most is that I can see how much I have got left to spend in certain categories. I would NEVER think about this is the past. It would just be tap, tap, tap with the contactless.
I am going to learn how to use the 'move' feature later. Not by choice! Jumped in the car this morning (3 days after it had it's MOT) and one of my front bulbs has blown. So I am going to have to pop to Eurocar parts after work to buy another one.0 -
If certainly makes it easier doesn't it to track spending and consider what you have to save up for. I've found I don't have nowhere near as much free cash as I thought. It also makes you think before you buy something when you see how much you have left in each category. Have you watched any YouTube videos? I found they helped at start.SuperFrank88 said:

Just jumping in to also declare my love for YNAB
I too find myself walking out of a shop/leaving the petrol station and making myself update them all immediately lol

Yes I have been watching the Nick True videos and they really have helped me. I am in a bit of a 'false' period now because I am waiting to start my DMP, so I seem to have lots of disposable income (which is going into my Emergency fund). But as soon as I start my DMP obviously my budget will be a lot tighter which is where I will have to really have my eye on the ball.Sarahwithlove said:

I wish I had found it years ago! I have started listening to the YNAB podcasts on my commute to/from work. It won't be long and I will be eating/sleeping/breathing YNABSSDD23 said:Just jumping in to also declare my love for YNAB

Yeh his videos are really good for setting it up properly. It's helped me work out how much I need to put away each month for my big expenses and pay off my cards before end of 0% period. Any additional is a bonus. This is my first real month, I did 2 weeks in Feb so was half way through the month so was good time to get used to using it. I haven't tried the podcasts yet, will give them a try as heard good things about them.SuperFrank88 said:

Afternoon all,
Pretty uneventful week from me. Still getting the odd letter from creditors but it is purely balance statements. Next month will be month 3 since I cancelled DD's so I assume I will be entering the 'next phase' with them and start getting the default threats.
I have booked our summer holiday!.... normally this would be a beach holiday abroad and would be anywhere between £1500-£2000 for the 2 of us! NOT THIS YEAR!
We have a 6 man tent that we have never used so I have booked a week down the Gower in South Wales for the first week in August (my work shutdown week) for £122! The beaches and views in the Gower are some of the best in the world so we are really looking forward to that. Will be able to take DD with us too which will be fab. There is an outdoor swimming pool, park, tennis courts etc on site too which is a bonus but most of the days will be spent on the beach
Let's just hope the weather is good.
Just back from the gym now and I am absolutely shattered. Not from the workout, just feel tired in general. Got an assignment to crack on with tomorrow so it will be a chilled day....after the Legs, bums & tums class at 10:30 (so I get a nice lie in).
Using YNAB religiously and entering ALL my transactions as they happen using the IOS app. Really easy! It is all new and exciting but it will take a few months of using it to really reap the benefits me thinks.
OH in work today & tomorrow. Tonight's dinner is sweet chilli chicken burgers from the butcher, homemade chips and a blob of coleslaw as our weekly treat.

I will be reaching out to you I’m sure over the next few months to ask for tips & tricks with the whole DMP set up & YNAB. I have only been using it a couple of weeks so haven’t had to re jig any of my pots yet. Nor do I want to. But I appreciate life happens so may need your help in the future with that

My knowledge is small but I will gladly share my experience if it helps
one thing I did learn from the DMP support thread part 13 (on diaries) Is to, on Stepchange budget at least, develop a serious smoking habit and become a pet owner (although I have pets anyway) to help give wiggle room in the budget. If thou of fortune be bereft, and of thine earthly store hath left,Two loaves, Sell one and with the dole, buy hyacinths to feed the soul.
