YNAB...ing my way to freedom!

  • Morning all,

A weekly update instead of my usual monthly one, can you tell I've got nothing to do in work

Well the assessment day in Doncaster was a success last week. I passed all the test and also the interview. It was pretty hard going and there was only 2 of us there on the day. Unfortunately they other person didn't pass all the tests so didn't make it through to the afternoon interview.

It made the 4.5hr journey home a lot easier knowing I had done enough on the day. So I am now sat in a talent pool waiting for a vacancy to come up. Could be a month, a year, or 3 years! Who knows, but the hardest part is done

Also did a shift with Dominos on Friday evening. I enjoyed the delivery parts, but I didn't enjoy the lack of communication or effort from the store managers. I worked until 11pm, did 17 deliveries on my first shift and come the end, I still had no idea when I was meant to do my next shift. It said on the job advert that the hours are flexible and you work what you want, but that is not the impression I got. Maybe because I was the new one but I was the last one out, it seemed the manager had their favourites and left all of them go early. I told them when I first went to speak to them that I didn't want to work until close for the first month because I am still getting up for my permanent job at 5am. I didn't get the impression that they would care about that and would have me stay late, so I have knocked that on the head for now. I don't NEED it yet so I will wait until I have officially left my employment here before looking elsewhere for some part time work if I need it.

In other news, had 2 letters when I got home last night saying Lowell had bought 2 of my Capital One accounts. I was really happy about that because they now own 6 of my accounts and I find them so easy to deal with. The online portal is brilliant. I told them about my situation with being made redundant and told them I would be making token payments on all my accounts until I had a income stream again and they were so helpful. Told me that it was no problem and to get in touch when I was ready. That is how DCA should be treating customers. If they play nice then I am happy to pay them, the ones who take the aggressive approach can do one

That's it from me, take care.
  • Hi all,

Firstly, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Just checking in after 2 months since my last post!!  :o

So much has happened in those 2 months. I finished in work at the start of the month. Had my redundancy pay on the 20th and now I am getting that proper jelly belly feeling because I know I have no income coming in from now on. Well, apart from the £75 JSA that I will apply for on the 31st.

I have applied for a few job and got to the interview stage for the freight train driver job which I will hear back in the New Year. I have just spoken to the manager at my local golf club because he is looking for bar staff. Just want something to tie me over until I hear about the train driver job and so I don't have to dip into my savings/redundancy.

I have spent the morning sorting YNAB out to the penny. Now more than ever, YNAB will be my best friend until I find permanent long term employment.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the festive period.

    Frank.

    Merry Christmas
you’re doing the right thing taking any type of job just to get some money. It’ll be nice if you can spend your redundancy on something worthwhile.

Is the train driver job the one you went for the interview a couple of months ago or is this another one.

Fingers crossed for you on the job front.

Thank you. Yes it is the same one I went to Doncaster for in October. That was an assessment day to prove I was capable/suitable for the role, the interview last week was with the depot manager where I’d be working if I got it. Don’t think I’ll hear until we’ll into January though but it will be worth the wait.
