  • Morning all,

I think I should just accept that the norm for me is to do a monthly update :)

No real news really only that my complaint to the FOS about my biggest debt is coming to the end now. I complained to them about the interest still being added to my defaulted account. The FOS seem to be agreeing with me and have told my creditor to remove all interest & charges since January 2021 and to also compensate me £100 as they have not followed the proper procedure with my case. So it is a win win (nearly). They have until 31st to reply. I will FINALLY be making my first DMP payment tomorrow to them which will really start the ball rolling.

Other than that, life if bumbling along nicely :)

    Hope you are all good.

  • Morning folks,

Well, big news in this months diary update! I have been told that the company I work for is closing and I will be made redundant at the end of the year. I knew that my boss was coming close to retirement but the whole last couple of years have really brought the date forward.

I have been here since an apprentice,11 years ago so it is all I have known. The other boys will be let go the end of October & mid Nov but my boss has asked me to stay until the very end which will be the end of December. I have been here the longest so it is nice of him to secure me until the end. He has also told me that he will be bumping up my redundancy pay as a thank you so it is all good.

As far as what the future holds, who knows! I am not going to rush into anything. I am going to take a short break in the new year just to recharge a bit and keep an eye out for something that is right for me, instead of jumping quickly into a new job and finding out I don't like it. If I am happy then I would like my next job to see me through the next 20yrs so I don't want to be job hopping.

I have just started my last year of my part time degree which all being well I will graduate in the summer next year. So it will also give me time to concentrate on the final stretch of that.

Exciting times but also a bit anxious as I have never been through the job hunting phase before. Haven't ever had a proper formal interview so that will all be new. But I am hoping that with the experience I have got and also the academic qualifications that I have gained along the way will help me.

It is very strange in work at the moment because I am the only one who knows so far. We have no more work to do and obviously no new work coming in. So we are just trying to keep ourselves busy. Still feel a fraud though just sat here doing nothing and getting paid well.

    Over & out :)

I think if you got this news a year ago you’d be having sleepless nights worrying about debt. Now you’ve got that sorted you’re  nice and calm.
That’s very good of boss to keep you longer and pay extra shows you what he thinks of you.
It always looks good on cv/application form that you’re studying for a qualification.
Enjoy getting paid to do nothing while you can. Good luck

    Thanks @Parkyp

You’re so right! I would’ve been in a whole world of panic if I didn’t have my finances in check. So I’m very grateful for that.

Ahhhhh CV!!! That’s another thing that I’ve never had to do. Sure there’s plenty of templates out there.

    Thank you 😊

  • Hi SuperFrank88

I am sorry to hear about your job being made redudant.

If your part-time degree is through a university or a college, it will help if you contact their careers service who can give you uptodate information on how to create CV's, covering letters etc.

The link below provides information about finding work after redudancy and includes a link to ReAct (Redudancy Action Scheme) specially for those that live in Wales.

I found it difficult to look for work recruitment practises had changed so much from what I was used to. Then
I attend an online course through Workers Education Association on how to gain employment and received 2 interviews and will be starting work in November 2021. Other organisations offer similar services. I found that my creditors were happy to redo  my payment plan whilst I was out of work, if that is something you may need to do.

    Good Luck

Wow, thank you so much for all of that info. Super helpful! Yes I have had a look at the universities career service. Had to create my first every CV last week because I applied interest to some jobs. It didn't look too bad either once it was all down on paper  ;)

Congratulations on the new job  :) I will definitley check out the WEA.

As for my creditors, well they can do as they're told for a few months that's for sure  :D I am not loosing any sleep over that I can tell you that.

I will try and update my diary more often along the way.

  • Morning all,

Horrid weather down here is S. Wales today!

The days are soooo long at the moment because there is NOTHING to do in work at all. Had my redundancy letter on Thursday and it works out that I will have a little over 4 months salary. I am happy because even though my last day is 31st December, my boss seems to think we will have the place cleared out by the beginning of December so I will be paid even though I am not here. Win Win  :)

Yesterday I had a moment of madness and applied for a part time driver job with Dominos  :# I had a phone call last night offering me the job and had to go down to take documents etc. Maybe I have rushed into it but I just wanted a bit of pocket money over the Christmas period so that I do not have to dip into my redundancy or savings. Plus, trying to fill the week with stuff to do while not working sounded boring, I need that interaction with people and this little run around job will give me something to do as and when I fancy it. I have told them I only wanted weekend evenings and I think that is only when they really wanted me too, so let's see what it's like  :) If I find that I really don't like it then I am in no way forced to have to stay there.

I am also travelling up to Doncaster this afternoon (4hr drive in this weather!!) as I have got through to a assessment day for a job that I have applied for. If I get through then I will be put into a talent pool and will probably have to wait months to hear anything. But it is just another option. I like to keep them open  :pensive:

I also contacted my phone company this week to tell them I was being made redundant and if there was anything they could do with my bill to help. Best they came back with is 10% discount for 3 months. Not to be sniffed at. You don't ask, you don't get  :)

    Hope you are all well.

    Frank.

Part time job in dominos sounds good as a fill in. I must admit I have toyed with it, mainly as I love driving 😂 but I have done my stints of working weekends don't want to go back to it. You sound like me, need to be bringing in some money somehow!
