OK - I'm not going to attempt to tackle any floorboards just yet I'm scared just reading your comments.
DD and I put coat of paint 1 on the rest of her room and the end is almost in sight in there. Wondering if I can convince her to put furniture on the creaky floorboard so I don't have to deal with it
DS is working very hard clearing his room so I suspect I'm going to have to go in there very soon as well. Considering I've been up since 6am I can't believe I'm actually still going...

Just while I have the momentum Beanie - I've dismantled ds's old bed as well. Ready to go in THE SKIP (when I hire it).
Surely that will be it for tonight (suspect dd will want coat of paint 2 on in her room).

If it is just one floorboard CCL then it is sometimes because someone has laid a central heating pipe/ put in wiring for a  plug socket under it and just  not put it back right.  So lift it and have a look, if there is nothing there then bang/screw it down, if there are wires or pipes there, draw in chalk / put some tape to show where they are  and bang/screw it down into the joist - Is it under carpet or has she bare boards?  Some do just pop up over time if it is a bit of the room that is heavily used and walked on.  Not in the least bit scary. Just flippin annoying and a 90 second fix, so you wonder afterwards why you never did it before.  It is a frog, not an elephant, well more of a tadpole really. 

Teaching dd not to just hammer nails into floors is also one of those priceless life lessons, I think Saychezza and Chystal will agree.   Get ds in on the act too, the only people (so far )who have ever put nails / screws through pipes in my houses have ALL been workmen who were rushing as they thought they had finished and just needed to tidy up. You sound like you have done loads today - can't believe you were not made to suffer the year 6 leavers' class assembly.   I am still annoyed I actually went to 2 and will never get those 2 hours back.

Well I haven't done the second coat of paint, BUT I have booked the skip! It's coming on Thursday. And yes, that means that my goodwill payment from the exam board is headed into my account. It arrives tomorrow and then goes straight onto the credit card (that I've just booked the skip on). May have also bought myself a new mattress while I was looking... £372 reduced to £251. I am excited for that... but less excited that I've just read that you can't put a mattress in a skip. Well that is disappointing.
In amongst all of the decorating I will need to do one of 2 other things. 1. Hire a rug doctor or 2. Buy new carpets for the bedrooms. Obviously I'm thinking option 1. More research to do...
