Four_Seasons said:Hi, please could you tell me how you slow cook your gammon x
I'm not a talented or imaginative cook I'm afraid. I just soak the gammon in water (ideally overnight) then empty the water out, bung it in the slow cooker on low and leave it for 6-8 hours. That is literally it. I don't put anything on like honey or mustard, but I end up with cooked meat which is a start point for the other stuff.
Sorry - I'm quite boring. I did want to roast it but my mam said I'd have to boil it first so I just thought that was more faff than it was worth - so straight in the slow cooker. Not giving up

Morning
One final day of working from home. We got an email through late last night saying that we didn't have to go in today if we didn't want to because all lessons are remote today. So I figured I would make the most of it and have a day at home whilst the kids are at school. Today's lessons are up online and the other remote lessons just need the voiceovers recording.
So I'm going to finish prepping for work tomorrow. Cooking, cleaning, walk, relax with the cats etc. I made myself get up at 6 as usual but I haven't gotten ready yet. Enjoying a cuppa and a bit of morning 'news' before I get going for the day.

Wow! Someone told me last week that I have timetabled classes to teach and I wouldn't dream of not showing up to one of those - and I needed to consider timetabling non-work tasks. So I did.
I'm showered, hair done, 6km walk, dress into the repair shop for fixing, popped to Herr Liddle to see if I could get a bargain box of veg (I couldn't).
Prepped the soup and some potatoes which are just about to go into the oven for roasties. Gammon is done, sliced and the bits for the soup back in the slow cooker. I'm not that hungry at the moment but the kids are due home in the next half hour so I want to make sure that their dinner is at least available to them.
Tomorrow's remote learning is recorded and online, and real life lessons are planned (ish) I will be winging it a bit because I really don't know what I'm going to be heading back into.
I am honestly shocked at how much I've managed to get done and cross off my list while the kids have been at school. It's been nice, although my legs are tired and I'm not sure how much walking my foot is going to cope with. I want to make sure that I've lost a bit of weight before I even consider speaking to someone about my poor mobility though.
Got home from my walk and Mr River had delivered whilst I'd been out. Actually couldn't remember what I had ordered, and opened up a lovely gift from Ziggy. Just want to say a big thank you on here too - it is very much appreciated
So I feel tired now and could nap but I need to get up at the same time again tomorrow morning so I'm not going to. There's nothing else to do except find out how the kids have enjoyed being back at school, sort myself some clothes out for tomorrow and try and get a good night's sleep.
Sounds so easy

Phew. It was a long day and I've decided that I definitely can't manage the face to face teaching and the remote teaching in the same day. My head is blagged from it. Thankfully it should be the last one tomorrow though. I really hope so - all classes are due back in on Thursday so normal service should resume by then. I am not liking the masks in the classrooms during the lesson, but they are still better than teaching from home. It became very clear early on that not many kids have done anything much at all. It's going to be a tough rest of the year.
I finally bit the bullet and referred myself for physiotherapy about my sore ankle. Had my initial assessment this morning online. There's good news and bad news. Good news is that the physio doesn't think it's a weight related issue at all, but an injury of some sort. Bad news is that he doesn't think it's anything very obvious and my symptoms don't match any one condition. He suspects some badly repaired ligament damage from a previous time, and wants me to have a scan. So I went back to my GP today and asked for a referral. It was the fat shaming GP I spoke to but she didn't mentioned my weight at all - just said that she would refer me to musculoskeletal (or something). The physio seemed to think that it might need steroid injections or even surgery. Ugh. I don't fancy either of those - but I am pleased I finally got the nerve up to make the call.
Nothing else to report - just tired and heading off to bed early because I am quite worn out.

You know, CCL, I'd been meaning to ask you if your ankle could possibly be an old undiagnosed injury. What made me think of this was remembering something about my Mum. When she broke her ankle the year she died, she was asked when the other two breaks had happened...... as in the X-rays clearly showed 3 different breaks. Mum (& us) were only aware of two.... the current one & one from the late 1980s when I was actually with her when she fell & broke it. But in between those two occasions, she'd clearly sustained another break & not realised! I just wondered if you could have maybe done something similar. Torn ligaments can be painful too. I'm so pleased to hear you are getting it looked at. Hope it gets sorted out.
