Hello Ladies,
I too have bought items online. My Ikea order will be arriving tomorrow. All but one of the books I bought myself from my Mother's Day money has arrived. My 2 step stool and my Addis white laundry basket with vented lid were just what I had been looking for.
I started reading Becoming by Michelle Obama yesterday and I have just finished reading it. It was a complete joy and a delight of a read.It was insightful, compelling and extremely well written. No wonder it was a best seller. My respect for Michelle and Barack Obama is even deeper now.
I went to bed last night at 10pm because I was exhausted by that time. I woke up just before 8am this morning, but I felt tired throughout today, so apart from doing 10 minutes of washing up, I have not done any other housework today as I knew I needed as much rest as possible.

Chanie - you are helping the economy with buying stuff.
I am too.
Sugarbaby - Becoming by Michelle Obama - I wanted to read that at some point. I think she is cool. I saw that she visited a school in Hackney (I think it was) and played football with the kids a few years ago.

I read Michelle’s book, via my library app. I think Michelle is fab.7

Good morning lovely ladies
thanks for the book recommendation, I will look out for that. And another beautiful day here, I shall be pottering about in the garden later. I have been catching up with laundry, making the most of the lovely weather. Have washed all my winter knitwear now and freshened up all my summer clothes so I'm good to go. Yesterday I washed down my outside paint work. I also shifted some spare gravel, topping up my gravel drive and then added extra weedkiller to some persistent dandelions that are growing in my blocked pavoir drive. I have got a little man coming to clean and reseal that next week. I do wish my neighbours would keep on top of their dandelions, even if they just nipped off the flowers to stop them seeding😡.Other than getting cross with my neighbours over the neglect of their gardens I am happy and serene😂. Keeping busy and working my way through my to do list. But there's no rush. I think lockdown won't be ending soon and even when things improve I think restrictions will be eased rather than lifted completely all in one go. I think life will be quite different in the months ahead.I don't know about anyone else but I have totally given up with the news......I am sick to death of journalists and their endless inane questions. And a lot of the "news" isn't really news is it.......it's just "what ifs" and speculation. The actual factual news can be imparted in minutes rather than hours of conjecture......so now I just the catch salient bits and then switch off. I think a lot of the anxiety and paranoia that's around is driven by scaremongering in the media. I think we just need to use a bit of common sense and stay out of harms way. Lockdown might be a bit tedious and irksome at times but it's the people who are still out there, caring for us and keeping the country running that need our support.I was relieved to hear that DIL2 who is a nurse is not on the front line. Her dept dealt with elective orthopaedic surgeries. They have now been postponed and her department has been turned into a minor injuries unit, broken ankles, lacerations and cuts kind of thing. Keeping it completely seperate to try and avoid cross infection. Same with DILs ante natal care. It has been switched to a different hospital away from Covid treatment centres. So hopefully both DILs are now at less risk. With regard to online shopping for non food items. I think it's a bit patchy isn't it. DS2 tried to order some DIY materials to use for some home projects whilst he's out of work from Amazon because, even though he's trade, the usual real life outlets are all closed and he couldn't source what he needed. He couldn't even get them online though so presumably lockdown affects the whole supply chain - at least for diy and construction material.I've not tried ordering clothes or the like but I have ordered my usual vitamins and some OTC meds and got them. I just found delivery times were a bit longer. I have just ordered a hands free massage pad for my neck and shoulders. They said delivery time is around 12 days. That's fine. I do have a hand held massager which is fine for my legs but I struggle to use it where most needed, my neck and shoulders so thought I would try a diy pad. I am really looking forward to being able to have a proper massage but hopefully, in the meantime, the pad will help with pain relief. This might interest you.......One thing I have found just recently is that often Amazon have been a lot more expensive than EBay. So now I check both before I make my purchase. The massager was half the price on eBay, a saving of £20.I was first alerted to Amazon's sharp practice a while ago when I bought a Vax carpet cleaner and had a problem so I rang the manufacturer. They asked me where I'd bought it. When I told them they asked how much I had paid. Apparently I had paid considerably over the odds for what was an older model. My fault for not shopping around. Since then I have been more careful, remembering the old maxim, caveat emptor.Right time to get cracking. Going to de fuzz my legs and give myself a deep clean face mask.I'm still watching Jamie and pinching his ideas, making sure that I eat well. I have started taking photos of what I've cooked, saving them in a file for when I need inspiration and also sending them to DS2. Whilst he's not working he has taken over all the cooking to make sure his girl who is the nurse gets good food and plenty of rest. He's still quite new to cooking so he too is learning via Jamie.I don't know about anyone else but since I'm now avoiding the shops I find that I'm so much better organised with my food shopping and that I'm spending less and yet still eating really well. Win-win.Right a quick cup of coffee and then get the day started, beauty treatments and nice bath.
I might not be swanning around in my Sunday best but I refuse to spend the day in my pjs. I have standards to maintain.....😂😂7 -
Hello Ladies,
Well my daughter survived having to come shopping in Lidl with me at 9am this morning. We had 6 bags of shopping. My daughter carried the 4 heavy bags and allowed me to carry the 2 light bags. She is not a morning person, but I did not want to wait until the afternoon to do the weekly shop, when Lidl would have a lot more customers lining up outside the door trying to get their shopping done. She has gone back to sleep.
I bought myself a deluxe bunch of mixed flowers from Lidl with the food shopping to brighten up my Living room.
LL I have never found Amazon to be inexpensive. I have always preferred eBay where I can always find what I want at very competitive prices. It is really good news that your DIL who is a nurse is not on frontline duties and that she is also having her ante natal care away from corona virus patient centres.
I am really hoping that over Easter when temperatures are good in the UK, that the vast majority of people will not see the good weather as a reason for them to ignore the Corona virus guidelines with regards to staying at home.

Decided that I can definitely do without any new clothes for the time being and don't seem to have the inclination to browse online while the weather is so nice. Did another load of washing this morning then steam cleaned the floors and hoovered the bedrooms, my house has never looked so sparkling clean:)
My DIL is in exactly the same situation as yours LL she is normally a sister in the fracture clinic but is now dealing with minor injuries with the hospital now in 2 sections , one for Covid patients. Still a very worrying time though as she has the family at home. Made the effort to look nice for my DD and children when they Facetimed us at lunchtime , it was so funny because their dog was obviously looking at the ipad and could hear my voice but couldn't work out where it was coming from.
Well back to the garden and my book in a few minutes then looking forward to some roast lamb tonight, picked it up half price in Waitrose when I went yesterday afternoon. I'm another one who's given up on the news, I watch it for 10 minutes while we have a cuppa in bed in the morning.

What a relief for you both LL and Maisie that the nurses in your family are in a (slightly) safer part of the hospitals
I'm envying you the roast lamb Maisie. I'd hoped to get some for Sunday but all they had were massive whole legs which DH and I would have been eating all week!
We shopped this afternoon as although DH came with me he had to say in the car.Aldi have now started (like Sainsbury's) where it's 'one adult, one trolley' so I did the shop on my own after promising DH to be extra careful. Other than the lamb the only other thing missing was broccoli but we can live without that. There was a longer queue to get in than in recent weeks and when we passed Asda, on the way home, they were queuing all round the car park. Like you sugarbaby, I'm hoping that all this extra shopping doesn't mean people will be having parties etc. over the weekend. My niece told us that her next door neighbours were having a barbecue in their garden today and she's confident that there were far more people there than just the usual household.
It's a glorious, hot day here so it was no hardship to wait in the sun for 10 minutes to get into the shop. I wore a short sleeved top and although I took a cardigan I didn't need it. I put mascara and lipstick on and with the bit of colour from fake tan I looked far more cheerful. Flowers arrived in the post today from DD1. It's the second delivery of 3 that she gave me for my birthday.
I'm still avidly listening to the news. Mostly on the radio while I'm getting on with other things. There is a lot of fake news around so you have to be discerning. Apparently Trump thinks he's in line for a Nobel Peace Prize for Medicine.I know what you mean about some of the questioning at the press conferences but I think we need the media as, in the absence of parliament, there is no questioning or scrutiny. I thought Emily Maitilis on Newsnight last night was particularly good.

Is it me or does Dominic Rabb remind you of Jeffrey Fairbrother in Hi De Hi.At first I thought he looked like a scared rabbit caught in a cars headlights but he seems to be finding his feet now. He doesn't have Johnson's Churchillian demeanour and charisma but I think he's doing a good job holding the fort. Gentle but with a quiet authority.
I'll say one thing for Boris, he knows how to delegate and how to pick good advisers. I think he's picked a crack team. Can you imagine if we had been lumbered with Trump. Nobel prize indeed.....the man is clearly delusional.9 -
I think Dominic Raab is quite attractive.
My husband said yesterday that his mother told him that a family friend is now dead from the virus. He had underlying health issues. My husband hadn't seen him in years.
I have ordered some melatonin (helps with sleep) and some insoles for the trainers that are too big. I have also ordered some CBD oil again. I tried it when I had fibromyalgia (didn't really work) but I did notice it had an effect on my anxiety levels so I thought I would give it a try again. I got a 50% discount from Health Span for the CBD oil.
I am going to wear my black pyjama shorts out tomorrow for my walk with my trainers. I bought a black short sequin dress from a charity shop before this happened and it is too short to wear with tights but I can wear it with leggings/shorts/trousers. I hope that will offset any weird looks I might get wearing the shorts.
I just heard it will be much cooler next week.
