I remember when we got our new telly. The money was a gift from OH's nan and she wanted us to replace our CRT telly. We like telly but neither of us are massive techies so we opted for a small-ish large telly but decided we wanted the best picture that our £400 could buy us. I remember fil's horror that we had "only" got a 42" telly when we could have had a 60" telly for that price. We are still very happy with the 42" one 4 years later!

Our new one is a 32" - the other one was a CRT, but quite a lot smaller. No wonder OH moaned :rotfl:But it did seem a bit extravagant to get a new one when the old one still worked ok :o Neither of us watches TV all that much, so it is fine for us, and the smart features / built in DVD player etc are good, too :) Anyway, the hospice charity were delighted to receive the old one, and OH remembered to do the gift aid thing :T
I haven't had a MRI scan, but I did have a CT scan on my abdomen a few months ago, and that was weird too. Really noisy! Sadly, still no bar in the corner though! :rotfl:

Thanks Ally - I'm not sure if it's just general exhaustion, or that I'm still recovering from being ill but I feel quite emotional (and not festive at all) and I don't really know why. When I think about it I just feel grateful for everything I do have (as long as I don't think about my finances too much) but little things send me over the edge at the moment (videos on fakebook etc). It's weird.

It's ok not to feel festive. Be kind to yourself.

    Hi December Devotees,

:coffee: Mornin'. DW and I are having a quiet day today.

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Five:

    :snow_grin Checked online banking.

    :snow_grin Checked loyalty points.

:snow_grin Day 2 of 30 day Free Running Challenge. Success! The ankle is holding up well.

:snow_grin Alarm clock off at the wall during day time.

:snow_grin Full cooked breakfast as a treat.

:snow_grin Beans on toast for lunch.

:snow_grin Slices of beef and mash for dinner.

:snow_grin Went for a free walk with DW and take some photos. Spotted a few Fieldfare, an Egret and a Buzzard so DW is happy with her haul of photos.

:snow_grin Drink only water til dinner time.

  • Morning guys :D another good night's sleep :j the medication I'm taking (alternate days) seems to give me a good night's sleep the night I take it - I've been having 8 hours on that day - and then the following night mucks up my sleep slightly. But because I'm getting 8 hours alternate days I'm finally starting to feel ok :j so much so I think I'm returning to work in the NY. Have emailed my boss to ask to meet up to discuss... (that in itself causes me a little wobble!) I'm going to ask to reduce my hours either to 30 or 23 and then I'm going to set up my little business'

Anyway enough rambling! Carrie I had to have an mri last year and was aware some people freak out but when I had it I wasn't sure why they would!

Dawn nice one on the TV:D

CCL hope you're feeling better soon, don't judge why you feel the way you do, just accept it and take the time you need to recover x

I haven't actually got very much to do today!

    * TOMM - bedrooms but I'm going to get oh to help me so will be 15 min job
    * prep veg for tomorrow & parboil parsnips
    * do a little timetable for when things need to go in the oven and at what temp for tomorrow
    * washing in machine now so I can put away tomorrow morning before famalam arrive
    * take dog for nice long walk :D
    * finish blanket for dd. Not sure why I'm putting it off because it'll only take me 20 mins....

We are going to the outlaws this evening for xmas celebration - Brazilians celebrate on 24th so we'll be opening the first of our gifts tonight

  • Well this week has not started well money wise, chrvjed my pay and am £500 down thanks to being off sick. Nice of them to tell me. Plus had to put £225 on the credit card for the vet. The boiler is broken, waiting for quote which will be huge as whole thing needs replacing- will it la st through Christmas?! Other half says he'll pay for boiler and I can supplement missing 500 from joint account, but I'm p$$ed off because for 9nce I had actually isgeyed properly for December January.

    Heigh ho.

-Xmas food shop done OMG do not go to a supermarket. Horrendous.
-Xmas gifts done. Resisted temptation to keep adding to them. Bought myself one treat, Yankee candle on offer. Resisted books, which is a massive achievement for me!

-Will live off what we have in for as long as poss. Now I'm better (wretched UTI) I feel a bit more up to things.

Merry Christmas one and all. May it be peaceful, restful and full of what's important.

Commiserations re the boiler TryingAgain, just had mine fixed after a week without gas heating or hot water. Not had the bill yet (won't be till after the New Year when he does his invoicing) but it won't be pretty
  • Dawn - so pleased that your boiler is fixed, but sorry to hear yours has given up TryingAgain...
You lot are so lovely. I forget sometimes that it's ok not to feel brilliant - and I don't again today, but that is tired. I've had a poor night of sleep again. I need to make sure that I get out of the house and tire myself out for later (not that I'm expecting that much sleep with 2 older but very excited kids today). I was up during the night clearing up after a sick cat, then up early for my long awaited BeeTee engineer appointment. He's definitely been the best of the 5 I've seen so far but we shall see if it works - he was here for over 2 hours changing cables so hopefully that will sort it.
Out tonight for my annual family Christmas dinner. We hire a private room in a pub as there are too many of us for one of our houses. And it's way less stressful than someone having to cook for all of us. I'm looking forward to it.

I feel you TryingAgain. I am £900 down this month (am on SSP), same as last month and have circa £700 on my credit card and £500 SSP went in to my account yesterday  My oh is having to stump up a lot of my contribution to the household expenses and I'm only putting £300 in the joint account.

You know what though? We weren't just fannying around, we've been ill. It's only money and it'll sort itself out in the end. By the sounds of it you've had enough on your plate - as I have - without beating ourselves up about finances. The credit card can't have what I don't have. So if there's nothing I can do about it I might as well not give too much thought to it. Better I'm back on my feet so I can sort this out than beating myself up and extending my ill health

    Afternoon all,
A very different kind of Xmas eve for me, we usually spend the morning running around getting the house ready for family to come at lunchtime and stay til Boxing Night but after a falling out with my sis earlier in the year, I'm glad we've changed things but it doesn't really feel like Christmas!
This morning we went to the cinema (using gift cards bought with last years xmas money from MIL) to see "Knives out" Dh and I really enjoyed, the kids not so much.
Then we called into coop on the way to my dads for a late lunch, we picked up lots of ys bits and pieces which have gone in my freezer for in between xmas/new year.
Lasange for lunch at my dads, (we took an apple pie out of the freezer for dessert) and we also took the gammon and chicken that I've cooked for tomorrow when we go back for lunch. (I remembered to take the board games with me too which will help keep the boys occupied tomorrow without any tech)
Home now to prep the pototoes for tomrrows mash then I can put my feet up with a cuppa, a fleece and a movie with dh :)
    Take care all.
