Whirlpool washing machine (branded as Hotpoint or Indesit) recall launched

I got the email as well yesterday. The model they have offered me appears to be a lower spec model and looking at the prices online they’re retailing for less than I paid for mine two years ago. I’m notsure why they’re not giving an identical replacement given that the model I bought is still for sale in the shop I bought it from. The cynic in me thinks they haven’t offered refunds because they can replace the broken machines with lower cost ones and pocket the difference and we’ll all be happy because we can wash again.0

Just read yesterday's email from Whirlpool offering me a replacement washing machine for my current model Hotpoint WMXTF 742. Didn't even bother comparing the functions of the replacement machine (Indesit Washer 8Kg 1400 spin push and wash) as the depth dimension is 9.8 cms deeper than my Hotpoint and would not fit into the space in my utility room no way, no how. So, it seems my only option is to call the 0800 no. tomorrow and check the Hotpoint model replacement has the same depth dimension.....0

I have the same machine and need a not so deep one, my replacement through the link was a shallow one but poor reviews and long wash cycles no short ones like our machine , I’ve clicked again just now and now showing the same as your offering, so no good as too deep.0 -
Clicked replacement link today and a shallow one is now there to choose.
Hope you managed to get yours sorted as well.0 -
I ordered mine t'other day.
Tesco are dragging their feet on sec 75, but they did tell me to not swap it. I have ignored this and arranged my order to be delivered 31st!
My theory is that I have given Tesco enough time to deal with the Sec 75 and if they refund, I will then cancel the replacement, however if they have not responded by 31st, then I will have a new one to sell on and I will deal with the issue if Tesco ever respond!0 -
I had the email earlier in the week but the replacement offered was definitely a downgrade (lower load capacity, bigger dimensions, inferior motor type). I suppose it's to be expected. With 500,000 machines to replace if they can get everyone to accept a machine that's £50 cheaper than they're entitled to it will save £25million.
I phoned to try and get an improvement and their advice was to wait a few hours and the offer will change. Ridiculous process. I asked about a repair instead and was told they aren't offering repairs. They wouldn't enter into any discussion. The person I spoke to and the automated message when I first dialled both had Geordie accents so I suspect it's some outsourced call centre company and not the HQ in Peterborough who, I assume, were the ones swamped with calls back in December.
Back to the website and the offer did change, still wasn't good, then I left it a few days and now I've had a fair offer and accepted it. The replacement is a different colour but otherwise is ok because it has all the features I bought the original for an no obvious downgrade in features.
It would be nice to think they just offer whatever they have available, but the cynic in me wonders if they start with a deliberately poor offer and slowly improve it over time as it looks like you're becoming an "awkward" customer who might actually demand what you're entitled too.
FYI I asked if replacement machines are factory new or refurbished. They said they are new machines. A bit of a surprise, I was expecting refurbs.0 -
Got email through offering replacement, this one..

Comparable with previous one, coming next week..0 -
That's the one most people have been offered with stupidly long wash times. However on the mixed load setting you can shorten to an hour so I've had it delivered. Poorer quality than the previous one but I need a machine so I accepted it. It'll do for now - my last was three years old already. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Well, my replacement turned up this morning at 7am, didnt unwrap it.... by 12 I had sold it on!0
