I had a confirmation email with a reference number, and another one for me to confirm my email address.

Thank you for taking this time to check whether your appliance is affected by Whirlpool's recall notice.
Your unique reference number is xxxxxxxx
Unfortunately, we have checked your washing machine against our systems and can confirm it is affected by this product safety issue.
We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience and concern this will cause.
    What happens next?
Preparing for a recall of this scale is a complex operation and we are working tirelessly to ensure we are ready to start offering replacements or repairs to our customers from early January.
We will be in touch as soon as possible to provide more information on next steps, including the free-of-charge replacement and repair options available to you. Please note that if you were asked to check the door lock colour of your machine and it is different to the colour indicated during the registration, Whirlpool reserves the right to cancel the replacement or repair if the washing machine is not subject to the campaign.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Mine seems to be one of the models affected but the website won’t tell me for sure unless I put in all my personal details first. That seems a bit odd to me and especially since someone got a security warning on the website. I don’t see why they need those details before confirming whether or not my machine is faulty.

I’m also wondering why MSE are saying a refund is ‘a long shot’. Surely this recall proves the machine has been unfit for purpose from day one. I’d much rather get a refund than have a replacement (probably very used) machine or a repair that I don’t trust since so many people still had fires after the tumble dryer recall earlier. Also, the advice about ‘unplugging it immediately’. I can’t physically move this machine to unplug it. Is it not ok just to turn it off at the wall?

Somewhat "left of centre" and, quite possibly, considered to be "cynical", comment: "Indesit" = "In de S*it"!!

I also have a machine that part of the recall :(

Looking at my options moving forward (bought from Tesco Direct who are no longer around, part paid with vouchers and on Tesco Credit Card - so Sec 75 is going to be my first approach here. My 2nd is to buy a replacement immediately, sit the old unit in the garage and push for a replacement with Whirlpool then attempt to sell the replacement!).

My initial thought after hearing the news was to only use the machine when we are in (I know I know, we should do that anyway!) and use it as 'normal' as such until Whirlpool get their situation sorted....

However that got me onto thinking....

We are now aware of the issue, and we have had it confirmed by Whirlpool that our machine with our serial number is affected. They have given guidance not to use, or to use on cold only if you REALLY need to.

If I go against this, and the worst happens, then I wonder where we stand on house insurance.... my initial educated guess is that it could be proven that we had been made aware, gone against the advice and thus the chance of a pay out may become slim.... something to think about if you want to continue using it!

I totally agree with your assumption that if you knew about the "problem" then the "payout"/replacement would be jeopardised if "something happens" . OTOH, regardless of that,"Indesit" = "In de S*it"!!. and so standby your defence of the "situation", especially for anyone who can't actually afford to buy a replacement ATM :(

My hunch was correct. Just spoke to the household dept at my work (I work at an insurance company, just not involved in the insurance side!!) and confirmed that since we are aware of the fault, we have been given clear guidance on how to use the product from this point forward, and is documented (by the fact I have handed Whirlpool our serial number), it increases the likelihood of running into problems if I needed to make a claim due to the washer.

I was only given general guidance as my policy is elsewhere, and each insurance company/underwriter will handle things differently.... but something to think about if others are thinking if pushing their luck....

I’ve got confirmation from Whirlpool that mine is faulty and then another confirmation saying it’s not. I’ve no idea which is correct and it seems I’m not the only one. I’ve heard that many people are getting contradictory responses from Whirlpool, sometimes repeatedly. It’s like a different answer every time you speak to them!

I’m not sure how this would work with my insurance if anything happened. I don’t know which response to believe.

Does your machine match any of these model numbers?
    https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/product-recalls/2019/12/hotpoint-and-indesit-washing-machines/

If so, I would show caution about using the machine!

Yes, it does but apparently the serial number matters too. Despite giving the full details, I still got different responses from Whirlpool. Maybe they aren’t sure themselves!

    Just a quick warning.
If you have done a check and your washing machine has come up as being ok do a check again as mine came up OK.
I did another check a few days later it was one of the recall machines.
