... and it's not a pleasant process, but it's not a difficult one either and the court takes a dim view of retailers who put inexpert customers in the position of having to use the process, so they are helpful (I've found) in enabling you to do what you need to do.
A short written dialogue with the retailer beforehand to remind them of their responsibilities and your entitlements will either have them engage with you reasonably or indicate that they won't, which will provide the evidence you need for the claim. When you indicate that this will be your next step the retailer will very probably want to avoid the hassle and make some arrangement with you. Essentially, they're in control and calling your bluff with nothing to lose; this process gives you some leverage to get their attention

Owners of fire-prone Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines will learn in the coming days how long they must wait for a replacement or repair.
Most fear many more weeks without a functioning machine, having already gone through Christmas and New Year unable to put clothes on a hot wash.
Some 519,000 machines sold since 2014 are subject to the recall, owing to an overheating door locking system.
Whirlpool, which owns the brands, said repairs would start on Monday.
BBC News
Whirlpool should offer the owners of more than half a million recalled washing machines the option of a refund alongside a repair or replacement, according to the Which? consumer group.
The US company is launching the UK-wide recall on Thursday after admitting that up to 519,000 appliances sold under its Hotpoint and Indesit brands between October 2014 and February 2018 were a fire risk because they could be affected by a door lock flaw that could lead to overheating.
The company has offered to repair or replace the unsafe machines, but Which? has warned that this could leave a large number of customers with the dangerous appliances in their homes for many months.

But your contract is not with Whirlpool/Indesit, it's with the seller of the item (and credit provider, if you used one).
If the item you bought was not fit for purpose, you're entitled to a refund from the retailer/credit company. It's then for them to decide what action, if any, they take to recover their costs from their supplier.

I registered with the recall website on 2nd January and they responded with an email asking me to ring them which I did on Tuesday 7th January. After a few questions I was advised that a new replacement machine would be delivered and fitted today. Just one week later it was delivered this morning, fitted within 15 minutes, the old machine and packaging all taken away. WELL DONE WHIRLPOOL. Credit where credit is due!0

Was the replacement the same spec and colour? (Bearing in mind a previous post #46 which said replacement could be a lower spec and wrong colour?)0

I have a indesit washer dryer model number IWDC6125. This is not on any recall list, but my machine suffered from a burnt door lock last Friday and was smelling of burning. An engineer from the company condemned it yesterday and am now awaiting an update on what their next step is going to be. I only knew it was the door lock because I paid for an independent engineer to examine it and he told me to contact indesit regarding this. He said it's not the first one he's seen either, so god knows how many other machines that haven't been recalled are affected!0

I registered before Christmas and have heard nothing since the original email. They say they're prioritising older and more vulnerable customers but given the lack of questions to ascertain these groups I've no idea how they are deciding when people get their machines.
Not impressed with the lack of communication so far.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Had an email this evening with a link for me to click through to order a choice of one replacement.
It’s a rubbish replacement, my machine has lots of short washes 9 minutes, 15 and 30 which I use.
One offered is very basic, I would rather a repair!0 -
I had my email through. Seems comparable to the one we have and about the same price point as the original so ok from that POV, however we tool the decision to replace the machine already with a different brand, so really, after some sort of refund
However, as we already have a replacement, I would really like to double check with Tesco regarding the Sec 75 before agreed to have swapped. However the department does not work weekend so I am mulling over what to do.
Delivery is on a weekday so need to take a day off. I need to take a day off anyway to service the car so 2 birds....0
