My day off this week was quite sucessfull. I have been running my freezer down for the last 2 weeks and was finally in a position to defrost it. My freezer is in the cupboard under the stairs as my kitchen is too small to house it. However I need to move it too the kitchen to defrost as we have a tiled floor, if I defrost it in situ all the melted ice soaks the carpet.

While it was defrosting I also cleaned the washing machine seals, filter and drawer and ran a cleaning and descaling product on a hot wash - all the gunk in my washing machine has been decluttered (a few items of the previous wash had come out with marks on they had gained in the machine). So £2 spent on a cleaning product on offer seems to have done the trick and is cheaper than a new washing machine I am well pleased.

I also went through the fridge and decluttered the left over veg, and the cupboards for tins (chopped tomato, beans, and dried lentils) and purchased a few reduced veg from the co-op as well as full priced mushrooms and made soup in the small slow cooker and and lentil spag bol in the big slow cooker to restock the freezer.

Then as the freezer was moved I decluttered the cupboard under the stairs - i found stuff I forgot we had. Once everything was out of the cupboard it half filled the floor space in the front room!! I can't believe I crammed so much into that small space (well I can, as I know how much is crammed in the cupboard in the spare room).

You will will be so proud of me, I got rid of 80 - 90% of it (not including the freezer which is now back doing its thing). Some fabrics and clothing for recycling, 4 small household appliances for electrical recycling, 3 large bottles of water expired 2008 - drained and bottles in recycling, Wheeley bin full and 2 bin liners full of charity donations!

A few usefull items put back 2 plastic storage boxes and wellies easy to get to when required. I had hoped to get rid of a load of cables and an old car radio - but apparently they are needed (I can't get an answer to what the cables are for, but the car radio is the factory fitted standard model that will go back if the car is sold thus keeping the fancy radio for use in a different car).

I have no idea how many items I have got rid of, my brain does not work like that, all I can say is it was a lot!!
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"

  • I have sorted my understairs cupboard of doom. It mainly needed a tidy so we can actually get in there, but I did manage to get rid of a couple of carpet samples, a bag of bits from OH work and stored all the tools together so I can easily get to them when needed.

2 bras and a pack of 5 knickers to smalls for all( age 13-14 specially bought)

A yoga mat (!) and a hideous stretchy chair cover to the chaz. A box of leftover Xmas wrapping tags ribbon etc to freecycle. 2 eBay beauty items. A bag with about 5 endoflife clothes to textile bin. A bottle of wine gifted at Xmas to a friend who made me lunch. Some more unused vitamins and supplements left here by Ex, freecycled. So that's another 15 (conservatively) items OUT and added to my total. I did buy 6 blocks of bargain cheese in Lidl though; I stock up when it's on offer but 3 of those will go to daughter later this week.

    A small amount done

    154-155 a pair of shoes
    156-157 some old insoles
  • Spent another half hour in the loft and decluttered half an old wooden wardrobe which when we had smashed it into firewood (4 bags) burnt well in the fire, keeping us nice and toasty. As the other half was beyond repair and some parts lost, it seemed the best use of it, though perhaps not the most environmentally friendly (sorry!). Nice clear space in loft now. Feeling better about my future loft decluttering :)

It;s been a busy and tiring week so failed miserably on the 15 mins a day de-cluttering.

Sat: listed 8 items of jewellery on Ebay

Sun:decluttered 2 prints I had bought 3 months ago into 2 picture frames. They are now in the pile waiting for the handyman to be booked (no DIY-ers in this house)

decluttered some embroidery thread into a piece I am doing for an exhibition

Ordered some storage from Amazon so excitedly cleaned out the under the sink cupboard. Like most of these cupboards there is no middle shelf due to the waste, so I ordered a metal shelf with a drawer under it. All sponges and little things in the drawer. I also ordered a housekeepers trug type thingy , so one of everything went in there so i can just pick it up and scoot around the house doing housework without multiple trips back to the kitchen (in theory!). Decluttered a bottle of Vax cleaner to a friend who has just bought one (we havent had one for a decade!). Threw out some old bottles/dried up wipes and put it all back.

    Must do better this week!
