Virgin Money Current Account

I chatted online about the problem with Principality BS and they advised to look up under company drop down. Didn’t bother used another bank to transfer.yorkshireOAP said:Apparently not, I tried the chat, but was timed out, sent message and waiting for a call. I'll wait to see if I get a reply. Why Couldn't they have taken payment over phone?"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -
I've just tranferred the money via a 3rd account I have into VM. So the fault is at FD checking payee system, but they say it is virgin. WRONG! Up till now FD has been my fav bank, been with them years. May have to re-consider.

Is it not possible to ignore the mismatch and proceed with the payment regardless?yorkshireOAP said:Possibly, I tried name on account as my own, then virgin money
Being able to override mismatches is part of the requirements for matching so there will be a option (perhaps not prominent) you are likely to have missed
The whole thing is a mess though - introduced to meet the demands of a small vocal minority but causing inconvenience to everyone else2 -
You have to be deemed to be close enough to the correct them for the prompt to override to appear. Perhaps with Virgin the issue is that Clydesdale might be the required account name? Not just different permutations of "Virgin Money" "Virgin Money Bank", "Virgin Money Banking" and the like.gt94sss2 said:

That surely cannot be true. If this is how they implemented it, I would leave them pretty pronto.dcs34 said:

I've decided to try and open one of these as the other account isn't going to get upgraded to a full online capability account like this new one.
Been a customer for over 10 years, did the application after logging in, filled all the questions out and it couldn't confirm my ID, as to be expected due to moving last month.
Scrambled around for my licence, thankfully have received a couple of acceptable letters to prove my address (was tempted to use one from them), took photos and uploaded them.
Just have to wait upto 28 days to see if they will open the account.
Only want it so I can move my money from the other account plus another current account whose app I can't stand.
Shame it won't be on the platform where my savings accounts are but that's one of those things. Wouldn't have opened it if I could have set up payees and make manual payments from their other one as it's served me well for several years.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
It's how all banks are doing it:Archi_Bald said:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/06/confirmation-of-payee/ - skip to "What results could I get from it?"After the Confirmation of Payee check, your bank will give one of four results. If you're doing a phone payment, you'll be told whether it's a match or not. Online, you'll see the different results (Lloyds Banking Group has kindly shared some images of results you might get):
- 'Yes, match'. The bank will confirm that the name and details are a match, and you can continue with the payment.

- 'No, close match'. If you've used a similar name to the correct account holder – for example, if you spelled their name wrong or used a nickname by mistake – the bank will tell you the actual name of the account holder. You can then confirm that the name is correct and continue with the payment, or cancel the payment and contact the payee to check their details.
In the example below, you might see this if you'd entered Han or Hazan as the payee's first name, rather than the correct Hayan.

- 'No, the name is wrong'. If the name you've entered isn't close to matching the account details, you'll be advised to cancel the payment and contact the payee. You won't be shown the actual name on the account. You can still choose to continue with the payment, but you'll be warned that this is at your own risk.

- 'Confirmation of Payee is unavailable'. This could be, for example, because the bank you're trying to send the payment to doesn't have Confirmation of Payee set up, or the account you've entered doesn't exist. Either way, it's worth checking the account name and details with the person you're paying, to make sure you've got them right.

Not true. LBG banks, Natwest and Santander allow you to proceed even if there is a mismatch, which clearly is the sensible thing to do. Allegedly FD do not.dcs34 said:

Apologies, I meant that in the first place! I meant the 'real' account holder's name prompt will only display to the user if the Bank determines it is a close enough match (as per image 2 on previous post) to enable the correct match details to be entered. If you're not close enough (as per image 3) you can continue with the big red flag that you're proceeding at your own risk...Archi_Bald said:Not true.
