Had a little extra sleep this morning. Was struggling to stay awake yesterday morning and still struggling in the evening. I hope it's just my body trying to recover from all the bugs. I'm not really in pain but I am very slow and nothing seems to be working - walked downstairs sidewards, one foot then the other, holding the rail with both hands.

Have written mum's cards this afternoon. She supposedly did them all earlier in the year when her hands were working but only did her partner's family (lots of them) and not our friends and relations.

It was a lot more complicated than it sounds (or should be). Some had to have envelopes left open for money or letters to be added, some people were having biscuits or chocolates, some people weren't on the list then there were some to be posted, some people will call at mum's, my poor niece has cards/ presents to take for herself, her sister, my brother, her mother and her partner (my brother's been divorced for nearly 30 years and his ex is remarried to someone in jail in the USA) and possibly for mum's lodger and his daughter (who now has a partner and a baby of her own).

I went to post the neighbour's cards through their doors several times but the rain stopped me.

I'm at home tomorrow and back at mum's on Thursday - the cleaner's grandchildren's school is used as a polling station so she's minding them and will clean on Friday.

Today I am grateful for getting the cards done with, for simple food from mum's cupboards and getting a shower.

Fun - have done some more colouring in.
Understand what motivates you - done.
NSDs - nothing spent today or yesterday so now on 5/15.
    Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500  1.8.25 - £106,362.86
    Mortgage overpayment savings - £3.33/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £675.98
  • Monday and Tuesday both NSDs- too much time at work to even think about a shop, so 6/15. The downside being that the fridge is bare now so will have to do a decent food shop either tomorrow or Thursday. Will make a list, so don't end up doing another shop at the weekend. Food has been ok, quick meals but nothing excessive. I have however just discovered salted caramel M&Ms- they were on offer last week and are amazing! Other than those no treats as not had time to do much of anything. Exercise has been dog walking but nothing extra- weather depending may ride tomorrow.
Hope everyone stays/gets healthy and avoids any more nasty lurgies.

    Morning all,

    Thanks for the welcome back.

Dolly Hi :) hope you are well?

Ccl could you take a day or two off and rest? This year I have told myself I am not going into work when I am ill. I usually go in no matter how ill I am but I’ve decided to be kinder to myself.

Spend day yesterday on a jigsaw and a takeaway, I need to get organised but the lack of kitchen is almost like a mental block. Christmas meal tonight which I’m looking forward to as we’re going for tapas which will be a nice change.

    Have a good day everyone.

DD and myself got into a bit of a situation last night. There used to be a community carol sing in our village years ago, it took place on the village green and there would be a brass band and a big tree with lights, it was always on a Tuesday night. It moved after a few years to the community centre car park due to the muddy grass on the green, then it just seemed to stop. Anyway the church opposite my house said on it's notice board that there was a community carol sing last night around the village and to meet at a different church at the end of the road I live on, refreshments afterwards. DD remembered going to the other one and having a mince pie after so she really wanted to go.

We ventured out in the howling wind and rain and as soon as we got in the church we realised it was the congregation that were doing it, I recognised a few faces from years back but not people I really know, it was too late then. We soon found ourselves singing carols in a care home, then under streetlights at various locations, in the rain with complete strangers who all knew each other. I started having one of those horrible hysterical laughing fits, it was awful, I was trying not to but just couldn't. Anyway we sang for an hour then went back and had a cup of tea, pizza and mince pies. When the games started we really started to panic and after a polite length of time sidled out. The people were lovely but we did feel like church crashers.

Mothernerd - I cannot wait to read your book. You need to write it, but I would suggest a nom de plume! Ex-sil sounds fascinating.

Today is NSD3, I have already dropped one forgotten lunchbox to the Academy, and picked up smallest child from school as he had convinced his teachers he was about to expire. He has a belly ache. He is in his room playing.

Tree decorated. Living room tidied quite a bit, Decided to go to bed early last night, so got up when I had finished sleeping. Discovered it was 4.20am, so made the lunchboxes, tidied up a bit, went back to bed and slept until 6am. Totally calm today. The election will come tomorrow - I have salt and candles.

I have a bowl of apples and a bowl of oranges on the living room coffee table along with a small tin of gingerbread hearts. All very festive, but my bananas are annoying me, so will steer the kids onto smoothies when they get home from school. Or they will have to go and live in the freezer (the bananas, not the kids), actually that is a very sensible idea. Well done for suggesting it.

Right, stuff to do, see you later!

Dolly - churches are just useful community buildings, I love that you crashed the party! What a giggle. I felt the same way at mum&todds, they used to come and bless my poor godless children. Nice people, but I did worry I would end up in a pie. :rotfl:

Foodbank/ Charity Donation - Dd set up to local hospice and will attend xmas party homeless and take some food with me on Sunday.

Eat Well - hmm trying but still off proper meals. Was craving a salad yesterday but as I had just got soaked to the skin and watched a chunky hunk of a guy rescue a little old lady who couldn't move in the middle of the road with the gusty wind, somehow getting out of my car again was unthinkable but then again he was cute.:rotfl: Got salad stuff today and ate an orange just another 4 bits of fruit to nibble later.

Savings/ debt - Paid £107 off my credit card I use all the time, that way no big bills after xmas.

Treat yourself -Well I bought myself a xmas present, was buying my daughter a bracelet and I decided to treat myself. Naughty but nice.

Invitations - I am going to cancel lunch with Sales girl from my company this week, waste of money until I feel more like food.

Very Merry Xmas - bought another santa hat for our xmas eve walk around the zoo and some more xmas cards. Will start writing them tonight.

Exercise - impossible yesterday due to bad weather. Just worked out from my fitbit to date this month 67,518/310000 Mistara 30k up on me. Can't say even done 5k all this week. Will try a walk after work, weather permitting.

Fun - seems to be lacking in my life. Might attempt learning guitar tonight, should be interesting!

NSD Staying on 4/15. Spent today lettuce and Christmas pressie.

  • Today I am grateful for a crisp day, for a good day at work, for seeing dh for a short while in between all his hither and thithering, for a beautiful carol service at the minster, for trams and buses, for dh coming to meet us off the bus.
