But they hide it don't they - so its still all internalised and people seem to have even more of a stigma about people who self harm than those with depression/mental health issues.

Hmm I guess so, I have known some selfharmers (when I was at uni) and people couldn't do enough to help them.

Although on the other hand I also knew someone who would threaten to kill herself every now and then, until one of the mature students turned round and said that's lovely dear, but can you hurry up and do it because you have been going on about it for 3 weeks now. :rotfl: Not really funny, but it made the point.

But then thinking about it, that is the view many people take with depression isn't it. Will you just stop moaning and get on with it, but we all know that it's not that easy, I just wish it was sometimes.

Still it's Friday and that is always something to be pleased about, I have OH coming over for Dinner and a DVD later and the office should be quiet so I might have a look at my spreadsheets... Does anyone know if you create something in office 2000 will it still work with all it's functions in office 2007? (we have 2000 at work you see and I have 2007 at home)

    Take care everyone x

I think the other view of that situation is the mature student had enough experience of life to determine the genuine ones, and the attention-seeking ones, and considered her an attention-seeker.

    Was their determination right?

Yep, it was all attention seeking, the rest of us could see it to which is why everyone kept ingoring her... Perhaps not the way to do it, but had we thought she was really at risk we would have helped.

    Hi Lucy,
I think things created in an older application generally work fine with full functionality in newer apps but if you save it when in the newer app choose save as and then the older option as it doesn't work the other way. HTH.

Right still playing with spreadsheets and getting irritated! It would really help if I knew exactly what I wanted!

Oh well if not I will raid the library for a book and have a go over the weekend. Getting hungry so will probably go for lunch soon.

    Hi

For some reason I feel a little low this afternoon. I've come over all tried and just want to go home. But I have so much work to do I can't afford to take the afternoon off.

I hate this, just as I feel like I am getting somewhere I start to feel all low and pooy again. I have no motivation and feel so useless. And I hate the fact that I sound so sorry for myself, it's not something that I try to do, but I just want to curl up in bed and have a good cry about nothing.

Oh well I can leave at 4.30.

You know, the pink hair thing must be symptomatic of attention seekers as I used to work with the world's worst attention seeker and not only did she dye her own hair pink, but she dyed her daughters hair pink for her first ever day at school! :o You should see the state of the primary one photo!

I really despise that whole attention seeking thing as it takes away from those who do suffer from depression. Every single time a colleague had a crisis in life, she had to go one better - if I said, I've got a headache, she had a tumour, if someone else had a sore back, she had a spine infection. It was ludicrious. Her only genuine illness appeared to be attention seeking. I'm having a rant here, but thinking back to working with someone like that, it makes me angry that her need for attention overawed everyone else's lives.

Like I said earlier, real depression is like any other crippling illness. Too many people say, "I'm depressed" when they mean, "I'm only at 95% today" while failing to realise that being depressed is like feeling the pain of a bereavement every day of your life. That's the only thing I can compare it to - the worst thing being that you often can't see a reason for it, and if the suffered can't, the chance of anyone else understanding it is even more slim!

Lucy, just come on and post whenever you need help. My own depression was long before the internet arrived in my house, and can see how useful it must be in terms of providing a outlet for the frustrations and lows that this horrid illness puts upon you.

The good news is, as I've found, it doesn't always last forever. I have had to fight it off over recent years, but have learned to combat those symptoms when I see or feel them coming. I no longer have depression, and I'm so grateful for that as I know how destructive and soul destroying it can be. When it was at it's worst though, no one seemed to understand it, no one appeared to want to understand it, and I suppose that's where we can only support each other and say you can get through at the other end and be all the better for it.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

    That is all very true.

I've had people say, just throw yourself into work it'll take your mind off it! That's fine, but when you struggle to get out of bed to go to work.....

I just feel sometimes like all I do is moan.

    But thanks for listening x
