The new Chinese Tesla factory is resulting in much cheaper cars. $8,000 cheaper. They're now at or below the same price as BMWs with much lower running costs.

15 New Electric Articulated Buses Deployed In NYC — 500 Planned To Serve All 5 Boroughs
New York City’s MTA announced on December 15, 2019, that it has deployed the first phase of its new all-electric articulated bus fleet. The now historic 2020–2024 Capital Plan includes $1.1 billion to acquire 500 new electric buses to serve all 5 boroughs. This first phase includes 15 buses. The first electric articulated bus recently took off on one of the city’s busiest crosstown routes – the 14th Street busway.
MTA plans to acquire only electric buses beginning in 2029. At present, the MTA operates a fleet of 10 electric standard buses. The electric trial is a 3-year pilot program to test the all-electric technology. The MTA needs reliable durability of around-the-clock four-season usage.
To keep the momentum rolling, MTA has put out an RfP (request for proposals) for 45 standard electric buses. These buses will be put into service starting in April 2021.

In short, come on 'the old guard' Tesla can't do it on its own.

Average CO2 emissions of cars sold in UK up for third year in row
The average carbon dioxide emissions of cars sold in the UK rose for the third year in a row during 2019 as falling diesel sales and the rising popularity of SUVs dealt a blow to Britain’s hopes of reaching climate targets.
One bright spot in an otherwise declining market was the rapid increase in sales of battery electric vehicles, which have zero CO2 tailpipe emissions, and hybrid vehicles, which combine an internal combustion engine with a battery-powered motor. Annual sales of alternatively fuelled vehicles rose by 20.6% to a record market share of 7.4%. That was driven by the surge in battery electric sales, which were up by 144%.

However, sales of battery electric vehicles would need to rise from the 1.6% market share for 2019 to 27% to hit the 95g target alone, according to the SMMT’s calculations.

"The 16 percent price reduction on locally-produced Model 3 is made possible by new energy subsidies recently announced by the Chinese government".
Which shows that despite China often being branded in the media as being one of the biggest carbon offenders, actually unlike most Western govts they offer world leading EV subsidies.

They are not cheaper in China

Even with the price cut, Tesla's Model 3 starts at over 300,000 yuan ($43,133). Cars that cost less than 100,000 yuan account for almost half of total cars sold in China

$43,133 is 7-8% more expensive than it is in the USA
And as the article says more than half of all car sales in China are the sub $15,000 mark

    Nothing new really
Tesla is a flex brand with high prices
Is there a market for that? Sure just like for expensive watches expensive cloths expensive hand bangs they all serve a bigger purpose which is 'look at what I can afford to buy that you can't' above and beyond their use task.

Article on PEV, BEV and PHEV sales in the UK last year. Small numbers but lots of growth and potential, and a look to the impact on sales of the change to BiK this year.

Plug-In Vehicle Sales Up To 3.1% In UK, 6.3% In December — But Look Around The Corner
No doubt about it, the UK electric vehicle market isn’t close to the Norwegian market or Dutch market in terms of plug-in vehicle (PEV) market share. However, it did surpass the 3% marker in 2019, and surpassed 6% in December. This puts the UK pretty high up globally in terms of PEV market share. However, this is nothing compared to what we’re going to see in 2020. I’ll get to that in a moment. But first, more stats.

Have to admit I fell in love with the Scion when I first saw it, as it seems to tick so many boxes. Obviously I support Tesla and their top down approach, but a versatile base car like the Scion is what we need today.

They are currently looking to re-finance the business as current funders are keen to sell the technology and the developments they have made, but not necessarily produce the car. So best of luck to them.
