I don't envy you driving in that. Well done for keeping going.

  • Thank you DIA, it's a mix of a few things. I'm settling into work, being given more responsibility, taking ownership for my work, while offering leadership. I've got a lot of respect from most people due to what I'm doing, a couple really should be canned / retired. I'm not using all my energy, although I am very exhausted still, and have a little bit for pampering every now and again.

Thanks SH, I wish I could sit here and say I'm used to it, but I've not sussed out where all the wind pockets are on my route. All I can do is keep going, tuck over ready for when my car gets sucked across my lane and quickly react to tuck over again; happens on calm days when someone hurtles past too.

Due to road works I took a wrong turn, got a bit lost but had to keep going, picked up a road sign to a location I knew and hoped I'd see one to get me on to my normal route along the way; I didn't. By the time I reached the known location I was physically done and I don't know how I managed to get home.
    - I'm now having to rethink where to move to as the location, and a few others I passed, were on my list, but I couldn't do that run twice a day.

I've not moved since getting home and was / am in a lot of pain.

Sorry you are in pain. I think having a job close to home helps a lot.

  • Impromptu day off due to scary weather, took ages to get close only to turn round and say nope I'm going home, which also took ages. Home is obviously lower ground compared to the commute as there's no snow here.
    - Again, it's making me question being able to get around if we move further up.

Managed to pop to the bakery after parking at home, spent £2.50 on a cake and rolls. Called in to the butcher's, picked up bacon, sausage, beef joint and pork bits spent £32.

Somehow I've rammed the meat into the fridge, got my PJs on, ate my cake and I'm hoping to settle / calm soon.

If I can stand in a bit I'll make bacon rolls for lunch, if not I'll have them the weekend.

Plans for today are sit on the sofa, maybe watch a film this afternoon.

  • Thanks Skinty, I managed to stop shaking late this afternoon and went for a nap about 3pm, woken when TomBo came home.
    - it was mainly the other drivers which made things worse, rather than the sudden weather conditions.

Been sat on the sofa since getting up and watching TV.

Hope you're okay. It can be really scary driving in bad weather. Good call to go home.

  • Thanks SH, just resting up.

I made it to within a few minutes of work, but couldn't do the walk and thought if I was taken in I wouldn't get home again. What I should have done is turned round about 10 miles after I set off, which is what I will do if it happens again.

    Some of my experiences today:
    - being overtaken, them cutting in close, causing a huge wave of snow / slush to cover my screen.
    - being tailgated while attempting to go up gradients.
    - being tailgated when driving along.
    - cars spinning off roads.
    - vehicles taking bends too quick and going sideways along the road.
    - vehicles sliding back down gradients.

There was me tootling along, adapting to each bit of the road / weather and being mindful of how my car was reacting, while being aware of what every one else was doing and adapting to the 'what if' risks.

Mentally and physically I was done, let alone having to turn round and get home. I struggled to walk to the baker / butcher, but wanted a human chat instead of bringing it home with me. I can barely walk, pain is eye watering, but at least it's the weekend 😉

    We had soup night.
