  • It is a nice feeling as you are still connected to her, I treasured those signs when we lost Steve I felt i could see him and it helped me to see that he was happy and healthy again. I hope you enjoy the garden today. It is a bit nippy here i have been for a short walk.

  • Thanks SW. These things bring us comfort.

The garden was nice. As the leaves have fallen I had a lovely view over the water towards the 'mountains'. I've still a good supply of veg growing and the garlic / onions have not been disturbed so far.

We picked present out for SIL and have a few others to sort out and order for family. It's the personal presents we're organising now.

As I will be working from the office, not at home, I'm thinking about opening up a second current account with my bank. That way I can move petrol money in each payday and over time a nice surplus will build up. Of course I've the option of using my 'car everything pot' for that, but don't like that idea; I also do earn interest on that one.
    - I'm not comfortable with putting it on my CC, then paying it off each month as I don't like spending money on 'daily' items before I've earned it!

I have a near fixed payday in my new job, it'll only fluctuate when due on a weekend. TomBo gets paid every 4 weeks.

I've moved some money to the float in readiness to help balance my final wages. It's increasing nicely.

  • Glad you enjoyed the garden and view. Wow to not using credit card. I use it all the time as i get points they are not brilliant but i get £3 of vouchers which i give to my dad who enjoys them. I am so chuffed that you can cover yourself while your wages are being sorted. I couldn't do that you are sooooo organised.

  • Thanks SW, it brings me out in palpitations when I read your diary, see how much you've spent and then wonder how you can clear it 🙈

I know it's quite normal and people find it odd that I don't do it. All I can put it down to is due to previously being in debt. The only reason I did apply for a CC was to show responsibility with credit and make it easier to secure a mortgage.

OMG i thought it was just me having palpitations when i saw the idiocy i spent my money on. 4 of the fleabay blouses i bought over the summer were not for me and then I bought two necklaces when one would have been fine! lol. Lesson learned. Being accountable to my diary on here is really helping. I am going to eat then I will do some prep. Have a good day, my house smells of Zoflora as i have just mopped. Lovely.

  • It's not idiocy SW, I did the same buying a whole wardrobe ready for job hunting and I don't actually need them for the role I'm starting 🙈

I know it's hard as the automatic solution is to buy something to make us happy if we've had a bad day, that's the mindset to try and move away from. In my case I move a bit of money to savings and mess with my spreadsheet. Once you've worked out your alternative, things will be clearer.

It really is awkward for you as you're working to such a tight budget, with no leeway. If you looked at it, reduced a few bits to free up some fun / bad day money, you'd be a lot less stressed and have a better balance.

It's great you'll be mortgage free in a few years, but simply slowing down and paying a little less each month, would allow fun and a proper EF to be built up. Adding another year to your plans is neither here nor there, it will fly by same as last year did.

  • The sad side of life:

I've always known it was never going to be easy due to the fragmentation within the family. I've had many years to plan how everything would work. I have my underlying background knowledge and been quite well placed to know who I would use for what aspect. That's why I'm super organised at the moment 😄

Waiting on a quote as tracing agents will be required, numbers have been disconnected and I've exhausted everything I can do. If no luck I will do the impersonal newspaper notice; priority is to do enough to allow the funeral to take place.

Got a quote for the probate application, sibling is onboard with this.

I will pay for the above, sibling needs to save every penny they earn to have a chance at remaining in the home.

On a positive note, sibling is doing well finding things and has messaged me a few photos. Also found some documents and will scan them over. This part meant a lot to me as I only know 50% of me and having some papers for the other 50% brings me comfort that I have something and not just an item of jewellery; I've always wanted to research the other half of me.

  • The happy side of life:

Thanks SH, it's always difficult to know how much and what to buy for daily use until the first few days are out the way. I always overdress for interviews.

Since 'leaving' my current role, I'm a lot less stressed and stand a chance of having some energy for my new role.

Next week I'm hoping to get my eyebrows threaded, find something to spend the voucher on and have a swim or two. Must get my outfits sorted out, sort through more clothes and strip down my defunct office.
    - TomBo doesn't want to use the car.

We had wings for tea, cat enjoyed hers too.

Feet are up and watching a film.
