    Thanks SH, so am I!

I should have moved on sooner. Hopefully I'll never be 'stuck' in a role that's not suitable again.

I do have a good feeling about my new place. Logically, not everyone would have stayed through fear of the unknown. To have multiples of two or three generations of the same family currently employed, plus previous generations, means they must have got some things right.

It's got to a whole 3° up here. I'll have to pop to the garden later and see how it's looking as the cars have frost.

6 and a bit working days to go.

I've been in the garden, done some weeding to get the bed ready for garlic, will rake the onion bed over next time and make a start planting both.

Picked some more dried runners, so far I've got 800g of beans for my soups and stews. Still more runners and borlotto drying on the plants.

I also lifted some spuds, got 2kg, that's the last of them as my winter seed spuds died; think the tomato blight got them.

The fruit bushes, plants and trees look good.

Leeks, carrots, parsnips, beets and kale are doing well and I should have a slow, but steady, supply over winter.

Just have to work out the plans for next year 😊

Well done on the veg. I still ought to check for any final potatoes. They were tiny the last time I looked though.

Thanks SH, add spud diving to your to do list.

I was so happy pottering around and did about 90 minutes, all wrapped up and mindful of when the sun would vanish.
    - I must grab some herbs next time in out, get them dried for over winter use.

My goggle set arrived today, can't stand getting water on my face / in my eyes. For some reason I also get earache during / after swimming too. Hopefully, goggle's, nose clip and ear plugs will make swimming even more pleasant.

I'm attempting to work out how to set up my artistic area and I'll probably have the desk looking out over the water and 'mountains' with the easel to the left, also to have the inspirational views.
    - just means I have to move the tallboy to ensure I have sufficient room.

So far my weekend plans are:
    - leg pamper
    - swimming
    - eyebrow threading
    - buy fluffy boots
    - plant onions and garlic
    - pick herbs
    - home dye eyebrows
    - read mags from SIL

We had spag bol with cheese for tea.

  • Great plans you sound a lot happier & have great things to look forward to. Hope the weather stays kind to you.

With the herbs could you take some cuttings and grow some to use fresh over winter maybe on a windowsill indoors?

  • Thanks Skinty

The closer I get to leaving, the more human I becoming and the more I can see how damaging the place was.

There's not loads of daylight up here in winter, obviously more than the north / islands and I try not to have anything in the windows until spring.

We can pick some herbs from outside as it's the usual hardy wood stem ones, I just thought it would be nice to practice drying them as they need a haircut!

TomBo was watching cookery shows last night. He found one making a parsley pesto and we just happen to have a load in the garden; it's not winter hardy and would be nice to use it, I can also freeze some.

It's all part of my self-sufficiency plan to have things in jars, tubs, the freezer or general storage for winter. I've got a pantry, why not take full advantage 😃

I'm focusing on my new role. It's almost like a giant bungalow, only 3 steps in the whole place. The daily travel may be a bit of a shock to my system, however I'll adjust as it's a straight run with fantastic scenery and normal hours. I do feel there will be a genuine work / life balance.

5 and a bit days to go 😉

    Are we nearly there yet....

    Sorry couldn't resist.

You are nearly there. Not long to go at all.

Hopefully the new place will be better able to accommodate your needs.

  • Haha SH, the end is so close, I can almost taste freedom!

I'll find out soon whether my impressions are right about my new company 😀

Put the heating on this afternoon, let the flat warm up and then had a long San Spa indulgent shower.

Had chippy night, TomBo's bus broke down and he didn't want to cook when he got home.
