We all had a fantastic time, the food was great and ice cream went down well with everyone. TomBo bad a few drinks and I got to drive us home.
Spent 5 hours outside and I'm now smothered in aftersun with my feet up.
The last 2 days have made for a magical weekend 😃Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.5 -

The visit went well and the pie was appreciated; chicken and ham.
MIL offered to buy us a new car 😯 said whenever ours becomes too expensive to keep going just ask her and she'll send the money. She wants the money to get used while she's around.
- based on something else she handed to TomBo (gift from his late father to be given when she felt appropriate) it seems like she feels he is now a responsible adult.
I'm getting quite emotional writing this and can't see my screen. Overwhelming generosity is something I've never experienced until today.
But wanted to say how happy I am for you both and how nice it is to have family such as your MIL, not for the money but for the hugs which are given for free and have meaning.
I must admit I filled up a bit when reading your last sentance. XMFW - 01.10.21 £63761 01.10.22 £50962 01.10.23 £39979 01.10.24 £27815. 01.01.25. £17538

Thanks Jennystarpepper no one should ever feel obliged to comment and no apologies are required. I've re-read my posts from the last 2 days a few times to get my head round everything and I fill up each time!
It's been a fantastic weekend with various in-laws. Everyone pitching in to bring or cook food and being appreciative of everything. The group had not been together like that in over 5 years due to locations, however another gathering is currently being planned.- I can understand why people like to food shop at marks, I thought some of it was actually homemade.
The conversations never stopped, nor did the laughs and smiles.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.5 -
It's 21° up here, I watered the toms at 8am as I didn't water them when we got home last night.
Next weekend we are popping back to aunt and uncles as I totally forgot to take them some herbs, garlic and onions.
We will pop to the garden centre afterwards and see if there's anything we want as we have the vouchers.
Today I'm resting, enjoying the positivity flowing through me and will water the garden later.

I'm having such a dilemma over this car situation. I know I should replace mine, but it doesn't feel right having money from MIL when I will be using it for work all the time.
I also can't get my head round having a brand new car due to the depreciation element although the scrappage scheme could be used and knock £2k off. I just think about how many cars we could buy over the years for the price of one brand new one!
Buying another runabout for a bit more than I normally would opens up a lot of cars, but TomBo isn't enthusiastic about traveling 25m radius to see various cars and hope I find the right one quickly. Yet I can't go alone due to needing a car to get to them, then bringing both back. I know there's the option of delivery, but I wouldn't trust it as I want the car in the condition I saw it.
I've done loads of searches to see what's about for the price I would go up to. I could buy one on my CC (the companies accept CC payments), then do the instalment deal my bank offers. The interest is a lot lower than my already low rate and there's no way any finance deal could beat it.
- I would pay it off by the end of this year as I've reworked my monthly budgets.
I'm under a deadline to decide as I'm potentially back in the office in 7 weeks and have about 3 months MOT left.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
You will need to take Tombo so he likes the car too offer him a bribe, more icecream. I hope you can get a newer car what a stress reliever that will be.Aiming for a minimal spend 20222

Thanks SW
I'm not actually stressed about my current car, just annoyed that TomBo has managed to wreck it.He never liked the car until he drove it. As he isn't into cars it's down to me to find what I like.
- I am stressed that I could spend more than my last 4 cars and he trashes it.
TomBo is kind of understanding where I'm coming from but still trying to push me towards a brand new car, with a bit of money from MIL and I finance the rest 😯🙈😯 that I'm really not happy with especially as I've a sub-prime mortgage, frantically trying to clear it and hopefully will be remortgaging within about a year to make it easier to pay down.
- I'm not sure where he thinks I can find money each month and save for tax, insurance, tyres etc.
Okay, yes I could afford it but at the detriment of savings or mortgage overpayments, then the resulting stress of being in debt again.
- Don't get me wrong, if I had the money in the bank and a garage I'd have a very tasty car, but it's definitely not a commuting type car I'd have!
I've set a £4k budget, picked a few cars out to view over the rest of this week and will see what happens.
Just waiting to finish work as I started even earlier today so I could finish earlier.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3
