  • Thanks to the Energy Club for making it easy to choose the 4yr fixed with NPower. Unfortunately, two weeks later I have received nothing from them. Thought you might be interested that they told me third party applications do not get priority and to phone again if the envelope does not arrive tomorrow. Feel uncomfortable that I am put into a different type of customer.

If I chose to go elsewhere, how do I re-access the Energy Club list of best deals. Cannot see a way on the screen as it only seems to show the selected company details.
  • On 8th October, I contacted ScottishPower (my current dual-fuel supplier) after receiving a letter stating that my existing "Discounted Energy October 2013 (v2) Offer" started August 2011 had expired at the end of the previous month - September and that I would automatically move to their standard prices. Yes I should have noticed but would it not have been good customer service to inform me before the deal expired?
I decided to change to the new "Help Beat Cancer Fixed Price Energy January 2017" tariff; but their website did not have facilities to do this on-line; I was called back by ScottishPower and told that 'the back office had not put in place the procedure for changing to this new tariff as yet'; and that they would note my request and I would be contacted in the next two or three days but was assured that my new tariff would start from the the 8th October.
Calling on the 16th I was eventually told the transfer was progressing and I would shortly get an email with the details.
Today, 31st October, I got the email but the effective date is 22nd October!!
I know there is only 14 days between the request and the implementation of the new tariff but am I impressed ? No.

I've tried to find threads relevant to my query but can't find one. Tried to post new thread but don't know what buttons to push. Very frustrating. Can anyone help me please?

My 'problem' is that I am £1215 in credit with NPower - when I switch to fixed term does all the money get transferred over or do they credit my bank account? A nice problem to have but not one that seems covered in the forums.

But energy companies shouldn't be holding such large amounts of YOUR money in their bank account. You should always ask them to refund your credited money to your bank account once it reaches a certain level say £60.00, or threaten to leave if they don't.
Why should THEY earn interest from YOUR money?

    Help please?!!
I Switched last month from Scottish P to M&S fixed until sep 14 or 15 I can't remember now Scottish P have rung me to say they will fix it for a longer period than M&S (the following January) I don't know what to do . They both will work at the cost before the price hike. Please advice. I can't work out if it is best to go back to SP. Now M&S say that I will incur a 50 quid fine even though I haven't started with them until next week.?
Scottish power suggested that I change my M&S tariff to a non fixed one so I don't have to pay the fine, is this true?
I don't trust any of these people

Tell SP if they pay your £50 penalty you'll consider going back to them. You've initiated the switch to M&S because SP couldn't do enough to keep you as a customer. Don't believe SP. It might be possible, but do you want the hassle? Is the SP fixed rate better than M&S or the same? Would 4 extra months on SP's rate save you enough to compensate for the £50 penalty? I'd assume I'd get the penalty and treat it as a bonus if I didn't.

Once you request a switch, you normally have a 7 - 14 day window within which you can change your mind without penalty. M&S won't tell SP about the switch request until after that "cooling-off" period.

Again, you would not be able to change from the M&S fixed tariff to another M&S tariff after the cooling-off period without incurring a penalty.

I'm inclined to agree with victor2 - unless you can get your £50 penalty charge paid by SP, I would stay put for now.

Do find out which tariff you're on so you are ready to switch again when the fix ends.

  • Scottish Power phoned me too when they knew I had initiated a switch (also to M&Sfixed to Sept 2014).

I knew they didn't have a tariff to beat M&S, so gave them short shrift. They have got longer fixes, but only more expensive ones.

Anyone had a real retention deal from any power company? Such as cashback to stay with them, or any other real incentive. I just think they try to bamboozle people with these phone calls, it's impossible to have tariff details at your finger tips in a phone call.

My switch completes on 5th November. It's taken a long time.

For all their sins, EDF pulled a smart one shortly before the end of their previous fixed tariff, which ended in September 2012. They offered existing customer the option to commit to changing over to their Blue +Price promise tariff at the end of the current tariff. With no early exit penalty and competitive rate, it was a no brainer. No immediate financial reward, but a straight switch from one tariff to the other with no period of time on their standard tariff. I'm still on it and it ends next April. Maybe they'll offer a similar deal towards the end of this one. Of course, it will still have to be to a good tariff, but in the meantime I'll enjoy the winter on currently unbeatable rates.

Their customer service has improved too, and IME they have stopped their "system" from inexplicably increasing your direct debit amount every time they got a reading.

I`ve not even changed to EDF yet as the process is till going through.
I had a welcome letter from them and they said I could create an online account now by registering.
This I did but there was a problem getting the verification email, so I went onto their site and did "web chat" and a very helpful advisor sorted it out within 5 minutes.
Up `til now I`ve been impressed with EDF and I`m not even with them `til later this month.
All the bumpf came through after a week explaining everything about the switching progress --- so far so good.
I did this through this sites cheap energy club onto EDF March 15 tariff with a £30 cashback.

I`m currently with SP but the only thing I can say in favour of them is I haven`t had a wrong bill.
Their customer service is very poor, you can never get through on the phone and their emails are not answered for days.
They also have one of the highest standing charges of all the providers, if not the highest.
If you don`t use much gas in the summer months this can really cost you.
