Just done a comparison on energyhelpline.com.
All the same factors bar the payment method.

    1st Comparison
    £25 per month
    Prepay meter

    2nd Comparison
    £25 per month
    Direct Debit.

The PREPAY with Ebico comes out £6 CHEAPER.
I may be mistaken but I thought prepay was supposed to be more expensive generally?

Don't think there's any standing charges or anything as when I top up, the amount I've put on the card is the amount that shows as my credit.

    Is this right?
    Thanks

To get accurate output from a comparison site, always input your annual usage in kWh.

The results you get are misleading. Ebico customers pay the same no matter what payment method is chosen. The reason Ebico will be £6 cheaper for a PPM can only because that assumes a lower usage.

  • Hi, I've had an email from BG to say my dual fuel websaver 5 tariff comes to an end Feb28th and I'll go onto their standard rates. I assume this means I should switch, but do I do it now or wait till Feb 28th?

Also, I have built up a fair amount of credit on my balance, do I get this refunded when I switch?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Use a comparison site to see what is cheapest for you.

Since a switch of supplier will take at least 28 days, the sooner you switch the sooner you'll be saving.

Yes you will get any refund due after you switch (and a final bill is created)

  • Thanks for the help. Have now switched and saved £70 and got cashback. Not bad as I thought I was on a good deal to start with.

    Thanks again.
  • Has anyone else seen the British Gas Nectar points offer...? They give you 4000 Nectar points upfront for switching to them & then another 1500 every quarter. Maybe not that exciting, but they also give you £65 off your first gas bill, which is why I am wondering whether it would be worth switching to them, with a view not to stay with them very long, but to switch again quite soon...? Do you think it would be worth the hassle, or will the overall cost still be too high to be worth it...?
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...

If you could be bothered, you could switch to one of their tariffs without cancellation penalties for, say, 2 months, get your 4000 points and use up your £65 credit then leave... That's if the offer applies to such tariffs.

That's the thing - not sure if I can be bothered... It seems like a lot of hassle! Was feeling more energetic the other day, but the way I'm feeling today, I think I'll just stay put!

I'd be grateful for some help. I'm a novice at switching - the only time I've done it, HE (who I was already with - I'm in their area) offered nearly the best tariff, and it was an instant one phone call switch of tariff, so I took it.

I've just had a letter saying tariff Go Direct 3 will end 31st March. I phoned them to ask what they could offer that would be better than their default Standard Energy Online deal (which looks about 20% more expensive than the deal I'm on now). They said to phone back in the last week of March and they would have a new deal available then.

My alternative is to switch to someone else, and I know this can take some time to go through.

So when should I start to change? I'm scared the move would go through too quick, and I'd hit a penalty for moving before my current deal expires.

What do other people do? Do you wait for the current deal to expire and accept you'll pay a higher default price from then until the new deal kicks in? Or can one organise it now and give a 'not before' date to the new company so you can avoid this risk?
