Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Hi Chichi
Just to confirm acc's excellent advice; you will not receive a cancellation fee in respect of the Fixonline 3 tariff. This is because you have completed the full term of the contract.
Also, we don't usually give discount on final bills when customers change supplier. However, as you've completed the full term of Fixonline 3 right up to the end date, you will receive all the discount applicable to this tariff even if part of this falls within the final bill.
The only discount you will miss out on is for any usage between 2 December 2010 and the date the account changes hands.
Hope this is useful Chichi. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Malc,
I have switched for the first time from to E.ON SaveOnline 4 from E.ON FixOnline 4. My E.ON FixOnline 4 was suppose to end on 1st feb 2011. What does it mean-
1. my contract still ends on 1st Feb 2011?
2. Do I still get all the online discounts etc that I was getting with FixOnline 4?
Many thanks,
S0 -
We are on OVO and about to finish the contract. I did a search with several of the sites published here and all of them promise savings of around 200 pounds or more if I switch to First Utility.
However, using the detailed prices of the Co, as published in energyhelpline (the clearest of all in my view) and comparing them to what OVO is offering now, I find my savings (based on estimated consumption of course) will be only 60 pounds.... less if I consider that I left it a bit late and I would be between 3 and 5 weeks on their variable rate before the change is implemented. The sites are not using the right OVO charges to compare, despite the fact that I made no mistakes when naming the type of contract....
So is it worth it? and even more importantly, can you trust them? I find the most important data: how much per unit, is not published by most of them....0 -

Hi saurya
If you've switched to Saveonline 4, the previous tariff (Fixonline 4) will have ended on the day of the switch.
You will receive all the discount applicable to Fixonline 4 right up to the date of the switch. Going forward, Saveonline 4 will kick in immediately following the switch.
Hope this explains what will happen saurya. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Any reason why you haven't followed the advice given in the MSE article?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... I've just signed up to switch to EDF through the Energyonline comparison site, but have just realised I could have got £80 if I'd gone through Quidco.
The email from Energyonline says that I have 7 days to cancel contract bt I'm wondering whether its worth doing this i.e. will Quidco still recognise me as a new customer if I re-apply to switch through them?
Any advice greatly appreciated!0 -
I have decided to switch to EDF from BG as the comparison was £236 cheaper PLUS the £100 bonus. BG rang me to try and win me back with a £100 credit to match EDF'S...did anyone know they were doing this??? If you are thinking of leaving BG or maybe you want to chance your arm it could be worth calling BG and negoiating a bit...you know the sort of thing " Ive checked the comparison sites and see i am paying to much and i am am thinking of switching to......????" you may get an even better deal than you would if you switched
Hope that helps, Happy Xmas:beer:0 -
I have gone on to a few comparison sites and find that the prices that they are quoting for websaver 5 dual fuel from British Gas are more expensive than I am charged, I entered both cost per annum and kwh per annum. When I queried this with one they quoted in an email:
If you enter your usage in KWH then this is going to be a fair comparison as it will compare the savings with what you will be paying on the new rates.
If you compare your consumption based on COST then this is going to be slightly off as it will determine the usage based on the new prices instead of the old.
The websaver prices shown as your current tariff are the updated prices for websaver 5, because they track against the standard BG rates, which increase as from the 10th December, but because it takes between 4 – 6 weeks to transfer you will be comparing against your new rates, which come into effect on the 10th.
and when I queried this again, I got this answer:
The websaver 5 prices were updated in the latest price update from British Gas so the prices displayed on the UK Power website reflect the prices that you will be paying when the increase comes into effect on the 10th December.
I checked on the BG website - they say that it makes no difference to the costs for my tariff as it is a fixed price and won't be affected by the price rise as it is for the standard rate only. So I won't be on the "new prices" as prices for a fixed price tariff are fixed at sign up to run for a fixed period of time and then you either go on to the standard rate or sign up to another fixed rate, change suppliers to another cheaper fixed rate, etc. If I was on the British Gas Standard prices I could understand the comparison but as I am on a fixed price until Feb 2011 I can't. So the savings that I am quoted on the comparison sites is not true. They keep telling me that I will save £17 per year but in fact on checking my usage I find that it will cost me another £100 approx per year!
I thought comparison sites compared the costs against what you are paying now - or am I being a bit thick here?
  I can't decide what I am feeling - can somebody explain it to me in plain English?0 -
I switched through this comparison site and THEY ARE REFUSING TO PAY the £20 Cashback as they say they have no record of my using their site!!! Is this something the Ombudsman would look at?0

I doubt it.
The energy comparsion sites are effectively brokers and, afaik, the energy ombudsman has not any powers over such brokers.
Even if you find someone to arbitrate, they know nothing of your case so can only go by what they are told. i.e. it would be your word against that of the comparison site.
What eveidence do you have that you went through the comparison site? You will need something to sway the probability that you are right in your direction.
If you have nothing, perhaps you could try contacting your supplier to see if they will support you in providing evidence that the request to change your supplier came via a certain broker/comparison site."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
