Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Apologies if this has been covered, there's just too many messages to read them all.
I've just tried to switch to First:Utility. Looks good, tarriffs are cheaper than eon, who I'm currently with, and you get £50.00 cashback on switching.
However, got so far through the registration process and got a message to say that they can't switch me because I'm with an IGS - Independent Gas Supplier. These IGS's own the pipes that supply the gas and additional charges would be incurred by the likes of First:Utility to supply the gas through them.
So I guess it's not always so easy to switch even though Uswitch showed First:Utility as the cheapest and offered the switch.
By the way, this was another case of the bigger discount being offered by switching directly with the supplier (first:utility) rather than Uswitch.
You should still be able to switch supplier with an independent gas transporter (IGT)
This is covered by 'other questions' in the article."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

But First Utility seem to have great trouble even coping properly with standard situations so if you go to Ofgem and insist that First Utility shouldn't have a problem taking you on as a customer all you will be doing is then letting yourself in for the subsequent First Utility nightmare.0 -
I didn't get a free case of wine from uSwitch either, just a voucher which requires you to spend an additional £50 on wine. I'd rather have got the £15 from Energyhelpline for switching my electricity supply (I don't have gas so I can't get dual fuel deals). Oh well, you live & learn. I hope they update the info on this!0

You could have got £20 cashback from energyhelpline via a cashback site:

Hi,
I went on moneysupermarket.com to switch my energy bill.
I went through the process for the switch and then got a confirmation email saying...
"
What happens next?
Your application will be sent directly to npower within 24-hours.
Your application will then be checked and processed by npower.
If your application is successful, npower will make all the arrangements to change your energy supply from your current provider.
Finally, you will receive a 'Welcome Pack' from npower confirming your supply start date.
How long can this process take?
The change of energy supply can take 4 - 8 weeks.
Note: Your cashback payment will be made once moneysupermarket.com receive confirmation that your application has been successful. This normally takes 2-3 months (certain cases may take up to 6-months).
"
It says 4-8 weeks but also it says i will be contacted in 24 hours.
What does this mean for me?
I dont know what to do next...
Thanks,

Anyone changing or thinking of changing to EDF should check the following thread which will hopefully have a full clarification from EDF shortly as well as clarification on the £100 welcome bonus:

Are they all singing from the same hymn sheet? Would be grateful if anyone can point me to written confirmation of this guaranatee.
Just had it confirmed (phone) by a representative at EDF that the price freeze guarantee does not cover the Online Saver Tariff.0 -

Where does it say anyone will contact you within 24 hours?
It says the comparison site will pass your application to the supplier within 24 hours. If you are contacted within 24 hours, expect it only to be an acknowledgement email from the comparison site.
I would expect you will receive a welcome letter (including your right to cancel) from the supplier in about a week or two. Also expect a 'sorry you are leaving' letter from your current supplier about the same time."Now to trolling as a concept. .... By switching from Scottish Power Duel Fuel Online Saver 7 I can save £35, but they have offered via email (which looks like the standard email sent to all customers who's deal is about to end) a 3% discount. I think what they have failed to tell me in this email that from Feb next year their prices could go up around 14% for duel fuel deals. We have up to Jan 17th to cancel, after then there is an exit fee. Could somebody please clarify this? What I'm thinking of doing is waiting to see what happens, then on Jan 16th, switching! Appreciate some advice folks, thanks.0

Not sure whether it is common knowledge or not, but I certainly was not aware of it:
If you ever used Moneysupermarket.com in the past to change utility provider and got the £30 cashback then, you will not be allowed to receive a second cashback payment.
I switched through them last year and got the cashback. Now I have just used them to switch again, only to find out that they won't be paying the cashback this time.
If I had known this, I would have used one of the other comparison websites, but hey..hopefully someone else won't make my same mistake.0 -
I think if you clear the Money Supermarket cookies from your computer you can get away with it !Thank you for reading this message.0
