Basically NPower should have installed a new gas meter to a house my freind and her family have moved into. They have promised on 3 different occasions that there would be Gas to the propety before xmas. This is not the case and the latest date she has been given is 31 December. She has been on the phone to them (when she can get through) every day for 3 weeks trying to sort this out but to no avail. The whole family are having to use freinds and family for baths /showers and the only heating they have are some electric fan heaters borrowed from freinds.Xmas this year for the family and the 2 boys will be at freinds .
N powers responce to the matter has been to offer £70 compensation,
Anybody think this is a fair offer? Who should she contact? ,what can she do?
TIA

Your best bet on something like this is an urgent email to your Member of Parliament (use www.writetothem.com) as what you describe is completely outrageous, especially as a family is involved.
A letter or fax from your MP to the Chief Executive of Npower (he will have access to special high level complaint contact details) normally does wonders in a case like this in getting action the next working day.
Obviously MP's shouldn't have to get involved in this kind of stuff but they are the last resort where people have serious problems affecting their whole family's day to day life and health and usually a letter from an MP to a Chief Executive on something as serious as this does the trick.
However you may also need to involve the Electricity Ombudsman although you must write to Npower's CEO first and reach deadlock with them before you can do this. The CEO of Npower is listed at www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html and is:-
Volker Beckers Chief Executive volker.beckers@rwe.com

You don't say how your friend came to be living in a property with no gas?
Could this be a property that had gas once upon a time but it has been disconnected before your friend moved in.
About 10% of the country has no gas. Since privatisation those with no gas outside in the street have been quoted prohibitively high prices for having gas laid on. Unless the customer is a property developer, the gas company (probably Centrica) does not really want to extend the supply network for a commodity that is running out.
Now where are the country people who have seen the already expensive oil they use, double in price because of the bad weather and resulting transport difficulties.
Who is going to give them "compensation" ?0 -
I am currently with Scottish Power, who automatically switched me to their Capped Price Energy Sept 2010 tariff a couple of months ago (you had to respond if you wanted to opt out and if you did not, you became due to pay cancellation fees of £50 if changing provider).
If I switch, based on my consumption for the last year, I could make the following savings:
EON £352
EDF £331
NPOWER £323
So I could make a considerable saving even after the cancellation fees.
My only concern is that if I go for EON or EDF, considering they have yet to disclose their price hikes would I be making a mistake to go for them and should I opt for NPOWER instead?0 -

EDF have persistently demonstrated an extremely cynical policy of giving people the lowest price in the market for 6 to 9 months and then slamming them up to one of the very highest prices around at the end of the period. They did that very thing with my mother's electricity supply so I definitely would not go for them.:mad:0 -

21 will have replaced 20 and will be cheaper than 20 for at least a month or two longer before they bump you up on to a high price and hope you are too busy at the time to notice.:mad:0 -

SOL21 is the latest online tariff from nPower
SOL20 is no longer available to new applicants.

But in the end all these subsidised tariffs to lure in new customers roll off on to a higher price unless you switch away to the new latest and cheapest deal with another company at that point. And these days there are also penalties for leaving them in the first so many months etc, etc, etc.:mad:0 -
I'm more confused now,i guess i will have to go back to the comparison site and see if 21 is cheaper than my current 16.0
