Thanks, Malc. May I take it, then, that it's OK to switch between the tariifs that are available to you on the e.on website (after you've logged in) without incurring a penalty.

    Hi Doc N

Depends on the T&C's of the tariff you are currently on.

If you let me know the tariff, I will gladly advise of any relevant conditions.

Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer. :)

I did read everything, but was asking for some advice and help from someone who had been through the process before.

I won't bother posting here again, but instead go back to some of the friendlier areas of the site.

If you read through the general articles on the utilities section of this website about switching energy supplier and a few pages of the posts in this thread it really ought to give you the articles you need to come to a conclusion. To ask for people to explain everything you to again from the ground up seems rather like asking us to reinvent the wheel.

A little unfair, I think. NonGeographicalMan gave you a helpful and sensible response, I thought, and not remotely unfriendly.

It does sometimes take a bit of time to glance through all the posts on a subject, but there's no real alternative if you want to get to grips with something.

Is it better to look for a 2 year capped rate vs a 1 year at the moment?

BG canvassing in our area. They mentioned a deal whereby you stay with them until Oct 2011 & they wil guarantee to be the cheapest energy provider. If a competitor drops their prices they guarantee to match or even beat that price within 6 weeks.

Should I be alarmed at the spiel or is this a good deal? If you opt out it's £30 fee for each supply but why if they guarantee to beat prices would they need to charge this? Is it too good to be true? Currently with Eon.

Read the small print. The declared savings will be based on a certain usage (average household?), not for each individual customer' usage.

    Hi hogshead,

FixOnline version 8 is available to new and existing customers. You can change the product via the online account you have set up with us.

Just been on phone to E.on call centre. Person on other end was not very knowledgeable at all.

ELEC: I am on a 2 rate meter day/night. I know I asked not to be on Econ 7 so have called up to check the dual reading.
CS said that although meter reads as I am still on econ 7 as I am on an unrestricted tarrif I am not charged a night rate just a normal rate. I asked again to remove the econ 7 but told not to be concerned? I am on fixedOnline V3
Also when I asked what my consumption was he failed to notice 150kWh on the statement. I called to get help so as I know what to do on the comparison sites so this threw me a little.

So when on comaprison sites do I tick econ 7 to get an accurate compare price or not.

    Hi hogshead

I'm sorry the person you spoke with at our call centre wasn't too clued up.

There is no need to change an Economy 7 meter if you prefer an unrestricted tariff. We just add the day and night readings together and charge all at the day rate.

Your statement will show the tariff as unrestricted.

To see how much electricity you are using, have a look at a bill about a year ago. Subtract the readings used (provided they are not estimates) from a recent meter reading. This will give you an idea of what your annual usage is.

Pop this figure into one of the comparison sites but don't select Economy 7. As you are already on an unrestricted tariff, the most accurate comparison will be like for like with other such tariffs.

Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you need any further help as will be happy to take a look.
