Hi just changed my tarrif to this one: Scottich power Online Energy Reward
Prices are guaranteed to remain fixed until 31st July 2011
Additional Online Energy Reward discount if you remain on this
product until at least 7th June 2011 of £105 (inc. VAT) for Dual Fuel
or £63 (inc. VAT) for Electricity Only.

1st I use Economy 7 but there is a non economy 7 tarriff available.

2nd It worked out cheaper without the reward, which is a fixed amount of £63 no matter how much electric you use!!!!!!! IE £63 IS 3 MONTHS WORTH OF ELECTRIC TO ME. They give you £63 worth of free electric on June 2011.

3rd This tarriff shows up on comparison sites but is not available through them. I also could not find it on there site. I emailed them for it (I am a customer and they are quite quick at answering emails) but I would suggest ringing them, I think you can get a call back via there site.

4th This tarriff has no standing charge so you pay a high amount for the first 900 kilowatts a year.
This is the tarriff for Yorkshire area economy 7 (which includes Lincolnshire)
Electricity 19.56p per kWh (day) first 900 daytime kilowatts per year (225 per quarter)
    Thereafter 6.72p per kWh (day)
All night time electricity 3.16p per kWh (night)
All prices shown are inclusive of V.A.T. at 5%
Cancellation fee of £30 if you cancel before 31st July 2011 (Electric) But although they should have charged me £30 for ending my other tarriff early they said they wouldn't as I was staying with them.

5th This deal, according to the comparison sites, has limited availablilty.

NOTE THIS DEAL MAY BE GOOD FOR HIGH USERS (look at the prices once you have used up 900 kilowatts THEY ARE VERY VERY LOW) BUT THE REWARD IS NOT BASED ON USAGE SO YOU WILL REALLY COIN IT IN IF YOU ARE A FRUGAL LOW USER LIKE ME.

ECONOMY 7 users in the YORKSHIRE area (which includes Lincolnshire). Since moving here 3 years ago I have never found any company offering a better tarriff and I change regularly but always to another Scottish Power Tarriff. I only use Economy 7 for evironmental reason, you have to use 20% of electric at night to break even anything more than that and you are in profit. IE my washing machine and dishwasher are used at night which is defined as 12:30 to 7:30 am (digital meter so no changing for summer time and winter time) JB

    Hi guys,

Just read my latest bill from Npower and things are certainly getting more expensive being with them. I have attached my latest bill.

I live on the 3rd (top) floor apartment and have two storage heaters in the property, at the moment I am on the
Tariff - Economy 7 Sign Online 7 / Monthly Direct Debit tarrif.

Firstly, is this the most suitable tarrif or is it more economical to come off this ? I would class myself as an average user. Heaters only get used between Oct and Feb and I am quite careful with what I leave on standby etc..

Can anyone recommend a better product ?

    :)

This is to high mate, far to high. There can only be two things that you could be doing wrong. You are using to much electricty or eletricity prices are to high...........Well done you have achieved both. The amount you are useing (I have noted that you have given a reading yourself so it is not an overestimate) is to high during the day? Have you got the timers set right on your storage heaters, blackouts may have disrupted the timers (I am guesing about the latter). I assume you are talking about a one or two bedroom flat. I live in a 2 bedroom bungalow and I am retired at home a lot.
Your daytime rate is 22.5p for the first 184 units then drops to 14.35p
Mine is daytime 19.56 Electricity first 225 units then drops to 6.72p
    Night is you 4.1p
    and me 3.16p.
Put simply you need to deal with your overpaying and then sort out why you are using so much and you are using to much. You should not be doing your washing during the day for instance get a timer etc. Again you are using to much during the day.
One more thing that bill appears to be for 6 months I have a friend who is using economy 7 he pays £1000 a year and does not change suppliers but he has 5 or more storage heaters again a 2 bed bungalow.

So change to this: Scottich power Online Energy Reward
Prices are guaranteed to remain fixed until 31st July 2011
Additional Online Energy Reward discount if you remain on this
product until at least 7th June 2011 of £63 (inc. VAT) for Electricity Only.
There phone number is 0800 408 1644 If you go via the internet click on "not a customer" At the top of the page JB PS the prices I used are for Yorkshire electric area, they will be different in your area but not massively.

    Thankyou for your detailed post.

At the moment I do not use timers, the storage heaters dont have them they are so old. Equally they are completely switched off and have been for the last 2 months or so.

The sky box gets left on all the time as does a laptop, other than that it is rare for me to use the washing machine/dishwasher during the day so I have no idea why usage is so high

I shall wander over to Scottish Powers website
Edit: Should I stick with Economy 7 ???

If you have economy 7 heaters you would be hard put to do better. You are using about 50% nightime so you should always be better off but you could go to a comparison site and check IE do not say your on economy 7 but check both. JB

PS what were you using for heating after Febuary? It was cold for a while. Also are you sure there is no timers for the economy 7 how do the storage heaters go on and off. Do you know what time economy 7 is? it does vary around the country and there is summertime and wintertime to take account of? JB

Well there are no manual timers, sorry of course there is a built in one but these are the old Dimplex heaters which are non adjustable so there is no way of knowing without a visit from a sparky or purchasing new heaters
