Can anybody who has switched to Scottish Power advise me when they ask for your final meter readings?

In the letter I received from them they said "within 4 weeks we will ask you for a meter reading". However, the leaflet enclosed said "4-6 weeks - we'll ask you for an up-to-date meter reading".

I'm asking because, as advised, I would like to ask for a bill from my current supplier, EON, before the final bill so I still get some discounts and want to leave it as long as possible to maximise those discounts.

Does anyone who has switched remember if it is after 4 weeks or before?

    Thanks.

Also, how can I tell whether my meter is a single rate or two rate type?

Hi I am about to rent my first property. I have been told that both gas and electricity is currently through British Gas but I am free to swap to whichever supplier I want to. How do I go about finding the best deals and are there cashback sites I can use

.I will have the same with my water too (water meter) but not sure of the supplier yet.

If you click on the Gas and Electricity tab at the top left hand of this page, you will find information about switching.

Unfortunately you are stuck with your existing water supplier, as that goes by region and there is no provision for switching to another company.

Is one more simple and straightforward than another , these cashback places?
Topcashback v Quidco for instance. They match moneywise on the EON deal Im looking at , so its down to simplicity .

Quidco charge a £5 per year membership fee that comes out of your cashback, whereas Topcashback do not charge any fee.

I use both because not everyone who pays commission through Quidco pays it through Topcashback but where both pay cashback for joining a supplier and the cashback is the same amount then Topcashback seems the obvious choice to make.

In terms of reliability of the transaction tracking or resolving queries where the transaction does not initially track I don't find there is anything to choose between the two.

Thanks for that NGM . You mention tracking. I understand I go straight to the (it will be Topcash ) site, tap into the EON page, then just do my change as normal online. Are there any pitfalls -anything I should know or watch out for to ensure I get my cashback please? Will it just be automatic because Ive entered EON from Topcash?

I would fully clear out my temporary internet cache and especially any stored Cookies in my web browser. Then I would fully shut down to power off and restart my computer and then go back in to my web browser and log in to my account at https://www.topcashback.co.uk and look up the page for the Eon deal on their site and click straight through to Eon from there and make the switch.

The reason for clearing out your stored cookies is in case in the course of your previous comparison work you had also visted the Eon website from a commission earning competitor of Topcashback like Quico, Uswitch, Energylinx etc and so Eon's computer wrongly thought that you had been introduced as a new customer by one of those websites instead of by https://www.topcashback.co.uk

    Hi,

I need some advise please. I have prepayment energy meters for both gas and electric. There isn't any debt on the gas and never has been as the prepayment meter was already installed when we moved to the house. However we did run up a debt on the electric and therefore we had a prepayment meter fitted. My Gas is with British Gas and electric with EDF. I have tried to move my electric to British Gas because the treatment we have had over the debt by EDF was appalling. However they would not let me go. The debt was about £4000 but we have managed to reduced that to £2000 since the new meter was fitted. I know that you get a better deal dual fuel and an even better deal by paying direct debit. We have had a really cold winter and i was putting in 30 -40 per week in the gas meter and the electric takes about 30 -35 per week with £15.00 going to the debt and £3.75 pw meter charge. It is costing me an absolute fortunate of which now i am benefitting in the warmer weather because now my gas bill is less than £10 per week. I just dont think it's fair in worse case scenario that i am spending £320 a month on utility bills. Thats more than my mortgage! Is there anything i can do so that i can have these prepayment meters taken out so i can become a duel fuel, direct debit online only customer as they seem to get the best rates. I am fed up of being penalised for having a prepayment meter even though i am paying in advance for my fuel. When there is no money left at the end of the month before the next pay day and the electric goes...then we just have to do without; and that stinks during this day in age. Is there anyone out there that can give me some helpful advice?

And dont suggest the EDF energy trust as we have been refused twice; we dont really qualify for help as we dont claim benefits we are just on low incomes.

As a first time homeowner, Im moving into my house next week. Are there any 'offers or deals' I can take advantage of for supplying my Gas and Electric? Id prefer to do duel fuel, have paperless or online billing (if this saves money), and want to pay for what I use, i.e. no estimated bills.

Can anyone point me to what I should be looking at?! Im a complete novice to all this so any help is huge help!
  • I am soon to become a first time home owner, and i was wondering if some one can help to give me some sort of estimate costs on what i will be paying out on Gas & Electric per month.

I am buying my first house with my partner it is a 3 bedroom and only the two of us will be living their, i am hearing its around £30 for gas and £30 for electric per month, does this sound right?

    Thanks,
    steve

sorry to say this but you will be paying a lot more than that, we are the same as you as we have just moved into our new 3 bedroom house 2 months ago and we are paying £100.00 per month on electricity. and £50.00 per month on gas. both are supplied by eon so you need to shop around for the best deal.
