I was in bed when the OP started his thread! And again, re his questions, I know nothing.
I do think he was waving the red rag a little, and could perhaps have been slightly less uppity about the forum. If it stagnated every time a newbie posted, so everyone could reply, there would be no point in running the forum...it's the quick replies & support that people get in their time of need & help that makes this work.
And yes it is social - quite a few people don't / can't talk to their family or friends about their situation, so we users provide interaction, also useful for those who don't get out for whatever reason, or who work in an environment without other people.0 -
I agree I don't think they dare you have all managed 5 pages of taking the pee certainly would put me off, never mind sure you are all proud.
Maybe Martin should rethink the not judging and add belittling or taking the pee too.
This is the bit where you all make out its fun and take the pee out of someone for not joining in -thats what usually happens.
No one is belittling anyone! One of the great things avout DFW is the way people discuss things in a light hearted way. What would you rather, people discuss with a bit of a giggle thrown in or the whole thread turn into a slanging match, which it would do on most of the forums.
I think there have been some very valid points made on this thread, the one that sticks out is, no one has the right to demand help from anyone and expect us all to sit here silently waiting for the call to duty. It's my time and I give it freely to help people as best as I can, but no one is going to tell me who I can chat to or what I chat about while I am here.:A

The people who write diaries help keep me motivated in my journey. I am inspired by them. The people who write in the diaries always read other posts and offer their help.
I have always felt welcome and had my questions answered. I can see the benefits of a subforum though.0 -
Rayday, I think your comment about it being 5 pages of taking the pee is, frankly, ridiculous. (I would say 'it's actually 6 pages now'....but that WOULD be taking the pee....)
There have been a few posts telling the OP where to get off, but the rest of it has either been serious discussion of the points raised, or light-hearted banter.
If it's true that the silent majority agree with the OP, then more fool them for not speaking up. I think most of us are open to hearing other points of view when they are given constructively rather than critically."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

I need the chit chat on this site. when i first found it i read the diaried for a month before i signed up, and thats what got me to where i am now. I was so depressed when i first came here and i thought there was no way out and that i was alone.
As many people know most of my debt came from failed fertility treatment, and a broken marriage. I dont feel i can discuss my debts with family or friends or discuss the personal circumstances surrounding the debts.
I have found a place where i get support, and it has become my way of coping with my problems. i find my diary is really motivating and keeps me going. it really helps me to read others diarys as well. its nice to feel you are not alone in this.
I always try to help others if i feel i can. if not have specific advice i do post a welcome to the site as encouragment for the new posters and to bump the thread so others who may be able to help will see it.
I dont expect everyone to post on my diary, i would still write on it if nobody replied. its just nice to know there are others out there that take the time to care for strangers. Lots of people in debt feel alone and isolated so it is essential that this is a social place.
to all new posters its not them and us, we are all here together, and if you stick around you will get the same support as anyone who has been here from the start.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -
