  • I like the diaries and I find the atmosphere on here very friendly and helpful both in the DWF and MFW boards (in fact everywhere on here really). I have rarely seen threads where someone hasn't tried to help and where they are it is usually obvious why. Sometimes the question is very complicated and not many people feel qualified to answer and sometimes the poster has a certain way with words that makes others feel disinclined to help.

Generally (and not particularly solely to the OP as as it's been mentioned that lots of newbies feel this way) help on here is voluntary, if you ask nicely and someone has the advice you need then they'll happily help. Like the real world the more pleasantly and with humility you ask for help and the more you are willing to help others the more people will help you. If on the other hand you find the world at large surly and unhelpful think about why that might be. I don't know about others but I treat people as they treat me, I'll go out of my way for people who treat me well but anyone who wants more from me than I feel they'd give to help me out if I needed. Well I treat those people accordingly.

  • I just want to add my tuppenceworth, for what it's worth. This is only my third post, but i have been reading the DFW threads daily for almost three months now, and I am addicted. I'm not yet brave enough to post an SOA, as i feel a little ashamed that the amount i earn and have previously earned is not reflected in what i now own and that i still have debts even though i really shouldnt. this is also thanks to being at uni twice and using store cards and CC's in the past. even today i pointed out to my mum what i come out with each month and the fact i have nothing to show for it. i just wanted to say that i have picked up loads of fantastic information and ideas from all you guys and feel i know some of you just through the diaries and threads and as a newbie feel that when i am ready to post an SOA or ask for help that you would all help in any way you can.what i'm trying to say is i think the 'chit chat' is actually fab, helpful and really useful for us newbies.Thank you to you all.

  • Don't ever feel ashamed - nobody will judge what you owe against what you earn/used to earn etc.

  • Thank you Keren29. I do judge myself though, and obviously we judge ourselves the hardest. I just get annoyed at myself. but I am beginning to work on some of the tips that you guys post, I've signed up with quidco, and looking at ways of reducing outgoings. Have set a weekly budget and grocery budget, so here goes. Think I just have to change my mindset. No I dont NEED everything, i buy cos i WANT. I'm not married have no kids and really should think about these being my priority in the future. I do NOT need to live for the here and now but the future!! x

  • Sounds like you are making steps in the right direction. It takes time but every positive thing done makes it that bit less tempting to go backwards (well, that's what i found anyway)
