I think our plan will be to concentrate on eating what is in the freezer and delaying the next shop. We've budgeted for £300 on groceries this month and hoping we can stick to it.
My back has started really playing up though so that's not good. Partner had to drive me into work this morning which will mean double fuel today as she'll pick me up later.
I've included in the budget an allowance for my partner and myself for little treats and things. Feels good knowing that once that budget is gone I can't spend more.Tesco [STRIKE]£7647.88[/STRIKE] £7,488.96 Asda [STRIKE]£2,552[/STRIKE] £2,300 Virgin [STRIKE]££4,204.95[/STRIKE] £4,204.95
Halifax [STRIKE]£2,853[/STRIKE] £2,796.64 Barclaycard [STRIKE]£7,866.32[/STRIKE] £7,866.32 Wedding £488 EF £630 -
I've also started double-spinning the laundry. I tend to use the shorter, lower temperature cycles on our washing machine & they are the ones with a less vigorous spin - fine for good liine-drying conditions, but not a lot of use this time of year, so I'm still using those to be more economical on electricity, then when the wash has finished, I'm just giving it 10 mins of welly on the spin cycle. I've noticed I'm needing to leave stuff on the heated airer for a bit less time than last winter, so I think this will work out to be energy saving overall. Hope so, anyway!

Dawn I hope you have a frustration free day!
Ziggy Hope you're feeling better soon.
onlypariah Shopping from home first is great for the groceries budget
Foxgloves Do you find that using the extra spin makes a difference in what/how much needs ironing?
I've finished my first list so here is my afternoons plan..
* scan ds2s hospital letter and blood test form - will print onto reclaimed rm surveys paper as proof for the school.:D
* make soupcooking now, its butternut sqaush, coconut milk and chili. Its the third time of cooking, first was lovely, second - dh loved, kids and I thought it was too hot - hopefully third time its perfect and then I'll get it written up into my tried and tested recipes file!
* make families lunches for tomorrow
* text friend to ask if they like some beer that we have that doesn't react well with dh's meds
* get gift box down as I'm sure I've got my friend and her daughters birthday gifts already but I've not got them on my list - will use - used gift bags to wrap
* update xmas gift list with some ideas we've had
* meal plan - using (I think) BB's suggestion for me to have a list of the meals but not set for set days. We often feed more then just the four of us but the extended family are going on holiday so I'm thinking I can try and have a serious use up next week of any random things in the cupboards (will reinstate my use up box too)9 main meals written down without needing any shopping - will try this (will still need shops for bread/milk/lpacked lunches etc)
** started off a new charity shop bag in my wardrobe, added in a couple of cardigans of ds2s, two emoji cushions that the kids don't want (my sis buys them random gifts!!)
** wrote up the soup recipe as it has worked well with the couple of tweaks I'd made.
** sorted out my handbag - took a few bits out to make it a bit lighter
Hopefully more to follow..Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Thanks for the reminder to double-spin - my mother swears by it, but I'd forgotten it was a thing!!
Just when I thought things were looking up and I could relax a little, my lodger has decided to move on. He's paid up to 25th November, so I've got about 3 weeks to find a replacement before I start to miss the money!!
So far today -
- currently sat in a jumper and a cardigan, refusing to put the heating on early. It's due to come on at 4, so only 10 minutes to wait!! I was at work this morning, got home just before 3, so not quite as bad as it sounds!!
- dinner will be from stores. I have a pack of mince which will become a large pot of savoury mince (some for now, some for the freezer), with lots of onions and a squirt of tomato ketchup (makes all the difference!!!), then I'll add peas at the last minute and serve it with a large jacket potato. Soul food for a cold day!!
- need to give the bathroom a quick going over - doesn't need much, just a wipe and a squirt of domestos down the loo.
A quiet day here at Trailing Towers!!
Hope all those bad backs start to sort themselves out soon - nothing worse.
Keep warm everyone. xxNo longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
1LL - I can't say I've noticed much difference with double spinning re ironing. I think larger items maybe tend to get just slightly more wrinkly when drying on the airer compared to a nice blow dry outside pegged out taut on the whirlygig, but that's just a seasonal cross I have to bear (as someone who loathes ironing)

Foxgloves - I've been putting mine on a longer spin whilst not being able to hang out and have had to iron far more items then normal but its maybe nothing to do with the spin as you say it could just be the not having a good blow outside! (or a combination of the two
)
Trailing - sorry to hear about the lodger going, I did read the news on your blog, I hope you find a new one soon!
I felt like I got lots done today just pottering around. That was til the boys came home and all hell broke loose! Ds2 had forgotten to do some homework that now needs to be in tomorrow morning before registration or he gets detention. Could I get the printer to work? Could he get the images to fit on one page? Could dh open the file when we eventually sent it to him to try and print?? well I think you know the answers!! 2hrs on and finally got the blooming thing done  oh and in the middle of it all I had two calls from " we hear you've been involved in an accidet" ok I've vented now,, I feel better.
Have a lovely evening all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Dawn - I hope that today has been a better one for you.
I have been kept busy thanks to numerous roadworks around and about doubling my commuting time, and being busy at work dealing with lazy and/or rude children. So I haven't had time to stress about money, or to spend it either. :money:

Yep the balance on my bank account is still £1,50 so all is well, 3 NSD days, one to go and then it's time for a new shop.
Meals from stores.
Club run, lovely evening - believe it or not. And had a nice chat while running.
Am fretting over a piece of prep for tomorrow - decide on one thing and then sort that out.
Yesterday - showered at pool(Have decided I am allowed 2 towels - so I can dry my feet and hair)!
Need to take my banana palm in - it's already had frost twice, so I will need to give it a haircut.
Hope to catch up on thread over the weekend.
