Is it not dry like that though?

No, it's wrapped in a loose parcel and sort of steams inside. :)

I'm with Maman on cooking the fish in foil. I generally just put a couple of slices of lemon on top of it which provides a bit of moisture. I tend to cook most fish in the oven. The only exception was the tuna steaks I did the other night as they only needed about 3 or 4 minutes to cook so not worth putting the oven on for.

Also agree that as we now get 2 HEAs you'll be fine poaching it in milk as there isn't much of it left on the fish once it's cooked. I certainly wouldn't worry about that minimal amount.

I'm definitely going to buy the beef. I've bought it in previous years and carved it up myself before freezing. It's even worth cutting some into cubes and steaks as it's cheaper than stewing steak and perfect for HB! :D

I love lamb but rarely cook for enough people to buy a large leg.

Back to fish : I cook all the thick pieces in the oven. I've got some plaice fillets. Has anyone rolled/stuffed and baked them rather than pan fried? :)

Maman haven't tried baking stuffed plaice fillets but Deliaonline website has mushroom stuffed dover sole fillets that says you can use plaice fillets instead to reduce the cost. So at least it shows that it's possible to bake stuffed plaice fillets. She does hers after cooking a duxelle of onions and mushrooms until it's dryish and then spreads on the fillets before rolling. Puts in a dish and covers with greased paper so I think it would probably work in a foil parcel the same as other fish. Definitely worth a try.

Sorry to hear you've got the black dog visiting TIE, hope he goes away soon.

Might only have been a small loss but at least it was a loss and not a gain so still a good result.

Went out early this morning to run my friend to the station so we won't out for breakfast in a local cafe where he dry fries everything for breakfast thus it's SW friendly. Only thing he doesn't do is whole meal bread just brown so will need to syn one thick slice with a scrape of spread (I asked them to scrape in on and scrape it off, LOL!).

    So today's plan:

    B - bacon (fat removed), egg, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, beans - P; S; F;
brown bread & scrape of spread 6?
    L - corned beef salad sandwich - HEB, S; 4 Syns
    D - HM chilli & rice - P; S; F

    HEA - milk
    HEB - bread
    Syns - bread & scrape spread 6; spread 2; corned beef 4

Sorry to hear about the black dog tie but you didn't let it stop you eating well. Well done.:T Hope you have a better week coming up.:)

Thanks for the Delia recipe denise. I think I could adapt that to be SW friendly. I've eaten things like that in restaurants but at home I've only pan fried plaice. I try to buy as much YS fish and meat as I can but lately Sainsbury's doesn't have much. I think they're in a bit of trouble and tightening up stock control so when I saw the plaice fillets I had to get them.

I've got savoury mince in the SC. It was so easy as I prepped and froze carrots and mushrooms before I went away. I'd also frozen some YS sliced leeks. I'll make a cottage pie one day this week and portion the rest for the freezer.

We've got football this afternoon but it doesn't start until 5.30 p.m. That means we won't be home until about 8 o'clock at the earliest so I wanted something really easy. I've got a Slimwell chicken tikka from Aldi. That's 1.5 syns for the pack and I've got an Aldi pouch of pilau rice (2.5) to use up. It'll be worth the syns to have a quick easy meal. :)

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS Ribena, baked beans (F) with fried egg (P), HEB toast with HEA milk
L: ham (P) with red cabbage, pickled onions (S) and bubble & squeak (S,F)
D: Chicken Tikka Masala with extra mushrooms (P,S), pilau rice and SW chips (F)
    Syns: curry & rice 2, weekend wine:D
