Yes mega relief. It's made it within reach. Just shows we need to buckle down and get organized and sort my finances doesn't it. The true cost of gas and electric would have meant eldest not doing wraparound care ehich although technically he could according to schools rules  and prob will from spring he's not quite ready.  Or me working a second job when dh off. I've done that before when kids were little and it was hard. For now I'm glad I can stick to my 4 day week. V grateful for the help. God knows how the country will pay for it though
It's just crazy isn't it. And there was Boris telling us to buy new kettles.  Just shows how completely out of touch they are.
I know we are on very different wavelengths I fear

  • Long time no see. My debts at 7252. I'll update sig next week. Also did the thing of trying to save an emergency fund. Then had tiles blow off causing a leaky roof and an emergency repair job. Part done with about 600 pounds more to get everything properly ship shape. It never rains but it pours eh. Literally into the house. We are watertight now just need things fixing on properly and the pointing having a sealent over to cover another damp patch that has developed:)

Nice to hear from you again.  Well done on the debt reductions, especially considering the roof repairs!

  • Thankyou. As it stands we have part of the money needed for the roof (I've been saving for new radiators in kids room as they only have single ones). We are about 200 short but we are at the mercy of the weather so gonna have to ring them this week and do it anyway. We still have a damp patch and the weather's only gonna get more cold and wet isn't it. Radiators are gonna have to wait till next year.
Then there is that pesky problem of Xmas. I've been very un mse this year and have not set anything aside. Well I did bit it all got used up repeatedly throughout the year...
Two months to get inventive, it will be okay in the end as they say!

  • Thankyou. Very close to the next percent paid of my debts. Not rung the roofers yet but will do when I'm off later in week. Started xmas planning by buying a note book. Need to kick start myself and get a wiggle on.
Not entitled to universal credit now as I've managed to reorganize my hours and drop a breakfast club so yay no longer claiming benefits which I'm very pleased about (....apart from c benefit). And childcare is getting a bit cheaper each year. Am going to look into tax free childcare and see if we are entitled to that scheme instead.
Gas and electricity wise I spent less than the crystal ball on the octopus app prediction for october so it's going good. I was about twenty pounds under. It's a challenge to provide motivation to use less if nothing else :) weather has gone very cold last couple of days so not sure how I will fare for Nov ha ha

Things sound good.  I use TF childcare, it makes a difference!

  • So I need to post more often. We spent all the spare money on the roof and associated works. The big leak has stopped. The damp patch we have when it rains really bad we think has also stopped but are not sure (we had some patch point done whilst they were doing roof) We are struggling to dry out the wall enough to be able to truly tell. I've tried dehumidifier, heating on full but it's top of landing and there is no radiator near by. So it's still damp to look at. I have wondered whether to put a portable heater on step ladders and try that way.
Xmas shopping pretty much done but at the expense of the debts.
I'm practically we're we started. I currently have COVID so have no brain power for maths but I'll work it out and update later in the week when I feel better.
