Thanks. May as well pop my head out of the sand once a month and make it a challenge!

  • So exciting news. I have received a cost of living payment today. I thought we were entitled but wasn't sure as I'd swapped from tax credits to UC bang on the dates for the qualifying period. I have been overpaying on gas and electricity and my council tax rebate went straight to it so I'm just over 500 in credit in my energy account. I think I will use part of the payment to pay off eldest school trip for next June. Then I know that's safe. The rest I'll put towards the bills. The even better news is that if I got this payment I think I will automatically get the other half so that will cover a couple of weeks (hopefully a few weeks) of my energy bills after Christmas.

Octopus is no longer displaying the crystal ball app so I'm assuming the forecasted figured are being updated. Hopefully it's not to bad when they upload it again.

That's brilliant news and you must be so relieved.

I'd be tempted to find the £8 but I'm impatient :D:D

Yes very relieved and feel very lucky. If you add up the c tax rebate the 400 everyone will get and the 650 cost of living then that's is 20% of my projected energy bills according to my crystal ball. I know other people are having to find it all but when I look at it that way I feel less worried. And the payment being late in the year means it's there when the bills will get bad.

Also tempted to pay the eight pounds. Just because ha ha

  • So the octopus crystal ball is back and as I suspected my projections have all increased. It estimates my Jan spend for example to be just shy of 900 pounds. Well that can't happen can it. And then estimated 350 a month for next July. I don't know if this is based on cap from Oct or expected increases in Jan but it's not an option to spend that much. At least I'm in credit for now. And like I said it's a challenge to be under. I've not paid the eight pounds yet to hit my next debt target as I've two big d debits due this week. Still very tempted though :)

Oh my goodness. Where on earth do the energy companies think that the average family are going to find £900 to pay for gas and electric? I went and bought some thermal long sleeved t shirts yesterday and had a chat about the energy situation with a couple of other ladies who were buying the same things. The general concensus seems to be "heat the person not the house" which I've been doing for a long time as my teenage son looks like he has a temperature if the heating is on past 6pm but I do realise that isn't an option for everyone.

I'd wait and pay the £8 in a bit to spread the victories out. The feel good factor lasts a bit longer that way 😁
  • It's unreal isn't it. I'm assuming I can get the bill down by using a lot less but it's not gonna be affordable/back to normal price down is it.

We have two new internal doors, one of which didn't exist before, Eldest now has a door that works, we all have hoodie type jumpers, I've two more throws on order and have ordered two fleece gown type things off Wowcher that will make us look very odd. The house is gonna need some hearing throw to prevent damp but with all our atire and the gaffer tape I'm intending to use to seal the windows (aside from one bit for ventilation) I'm hoping we will come out alright in the end.

Yes good idea about the eight pounds. Spread the excitement of the debt reduction lol

£900 for a month!  That is terrifying!   Are you all electric or gas and electric?
