I'm not a parent , but I think I know the reasons regarding the swimming situation . I could be wrong , but I think it's to do with peter files . Sorry to sound odd , but it has been over the press the last couple of years .
It's basically protecting children . As I say I could be wrong and someone else may come along and explain properly
Anyway, good luck for today..0 -
So DH has agreed :j
Jsut need to sort it now.
My thinking is that once the money is in the account and the OD is reduced we shouldn't end up in the OD and we should theoretically get DH's 'wage' back as the OD won't be there???0 -
I have done the transfer.
After much help from the main board, I am terrible at maths and am always afraid of messing things up.
Once it hits the account, I will reduce the OD to £500.
I will then move money about from the pots to cover the £500, it will mean my Pots will be seriously depleated and the EF BUT I am hoping in the long run it will be worth it.
I can then figure out a new budget going forwards.
The money transfer I will class as seperate and pay extra to BC to clear it.0 -
Hi - what I do as well to stay out of OD and to help avoid that 'it looks like I have money thing' as soon as we get paid - I transfer some to another account - out of eyeline. That way - I just transfer back what I need to avoid going OD rather than all of it... I then use this as my EF and savings for annual bills. I have a spreadsheet on which I track all outgoings (a month for each tab) and have a tab for 12 months of EF/annual bills costs - so I can see if I use too much today - I won't have enough left for our holiday etc

Morning,
Still no news on the permanent side of thingsthe CM is still chasing and prodding and will try his best ot get me some feedback today...good or bad.
In other news, the BC money transfer finally completed this morning and the OD is now down to £500 for the first time since the kids were smallTo think that at it's highest it was £2750 last year  The plan now with the remainder of the OD is that by Christmas it will be gone totally, should we not use it.
The good thing is that the actual debt has only really increased by £1000 and it is really good to see it all in one place and not having to worry about constantly being in the OD.
So I guess I'd better put where the debt now stands at so I have a good idea.
Lloyds: £7850.00
BC: £7072.00
Total: £14,922.00
Now, I need a plan going forward (you know how I love a plan!!)
First thing is to get rid of the odd £22 I like a nice round figure and that messes it up :rotfl:
Next is to attack the £900, should be doable
Then when it is down to a nice round £14K, I am going to attack the £4000.
I have an ambitous £8000 target to clear this year, which may or may not happen but I shall try!0 -
I love the way you set targets like that, nice idea.
Good luck am with the job, I hope you get sone positive news today x0 -
Good plan to get rid of that overdraft. Apart from the cost of these rising from April I always think it is better to keep your current account in credit so you know you are living within your means. Getting out of the habit of thinking an overdraft means it is your money to spend is sensible. Savings Holmes has a good suggestion to move money out when you get paid if you will be tempted to spend if the account is in credit. We keep nominal amounts in our current account. Just enough to cover direct debits and our monthly budgets for food/fuel/entertainment. The rest goes into envelopes in savings accounts.
I would have to get rid of that £72 on the BC first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. The Overdraft has been the bane of our finances for so long, it's good that it's gone (well nearly). We originally increased it when DH was self employed about 10 years ago as he didn't get paid by someone and we desperately needed money.
DH's wage pays for the mortgage, CC's and a lot of other things. Mine goes in to a seperate savings account that pays for the bills and I just transfer over the money when the bills come out.
I am hoping that we can finally save a bit now though.
Good idea about the £72, however....that would mess up my nice round figures :rotfl:0 -
When we had an o/d I asked the bank to lower it each week by £10 it took a while but I didn't notice it reducing and it disappeared almost painlessly.

Hey Purple, just caught up with your whole new diary. Well done on transferring the OD I think it makes a huge difference mentally and Lloyds bank charges really add up for OD. Oh the job wait sounds so frustrating for you! Fingers crossed you get some good news tomorrow x0
