Your food always looks pretty good Blue Doggy our bodies do weird things sometimes, especially when relating to fat cells
I don't think one square of 85% chocolate can hurt that much didn't they once say that it was good for you a bit like a small glass of red wine
I agree that for a lot of low fat / fat free stuff they just up the sugar level to replace the fat for taste, you can spend so much time checking labels. I agree most people automatically assume vegan food is a healthy option but as we know process and RM rarely mean that.
I can't remember who was talking crystallised ginger recently but some how a bag found its way into my shopping yesterday  I'm blaming you, you know who you are  I just need to decant into a container and ration it
As assumed chicken appeared in my meals today
B -
L - flat bread with beef, horseradish and spinach, apple and orange
D - cold chicken LO veg from yesterday, mash potatoes with pickled red cabbage
S - fibre one brownie,Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Yes, honeythewitch, there is a lot more money in selling us processed cheap ingredients packed into plastic containers than selling us dried beans and pulses. I am finding it harder and harder to buy these nowadays. Even Holland and Barrett don't stock beans now in my local shop.
BlueDoggy, I hope it was the camera angle, I am still feeling quite down about that photo.Yes, straight forward ingredients is cheaper, healthier and tastier, in my opinion.
A STS is better than a gain, BlueDoggy!
Brambling, so many people do assume vegan food is healthy, but there is so much junk out there now, it is all too easy to consume an unhealthy diet. I am the proof of that. Even plain chocolate digestives (well the Aldi ones are) and Bourbon biscuits are vegan, even those awful Oreos are vegan. I suspect they are full of palm oil to boot.
Don't get me started on the faux cheeses. I was out for a meal with my family earlier on in the year at a pizza place and they had a vegan pizza. It was drowning in faux cheese, worst thing I have ever eaten, yuck! My type of vegan pizza is all the veggies with no cheese at all, yum. :undecided
I suspect most of the manufacturers and suppliers of these vegan foods are only out to make money from this growing market - very few are in it for altruistic reasons.
Oh, crystallised ginger, lucky you!31.5/1000 -
I think a lot of manufacturers and supermarkets got on the Vegan January band wagon, there has definitely been a lot more in the shops since then. I eat meat but try for a least a couple meat free days during the week, but I do tend to cook for myself from scratch with just the occasional cheat ie quorn goujons
FrugalLina they do say the camera adds 10lbs, but I agree the angle can make a big difference as well <<hugs>> your doing really well use this to keep the momentum going. This is the reason I hate having my picture taken and some of it is because I do the opposite to airbrushing in my head and even when people say that's a nice picture of you I'm adding the lumps and bumps to itLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Thank you all for your encouragement.
Totally agree with the ongoing conversation about vegan food. I always thought the point should be purity. But then a lot of their sales will be ti younger people, many of whom 'cant cook wont cook' so are a target for a whole load of new convenience foods like gousto and simply cook etc. I think it's really good people are getting more ethical in their considerations about lifestyle - food included. I eat meat and fish and dairy, but nowhere near as much as I used to, and I can stretch it out.
brambling cardigan joy!! Well done. A size down is an important milestone. Savour the moment!
frugalLina keep the picture. Forever! Such a powerful visual motivator. I'm always shocked when I see a pic of myself, ever the optimist I feel thin on the inside. So much so I bump into things!!
bluedoggy I love hearing peoples rules... I like your chocolate one. I also delight in being on a thread where "the yogurt scam" is an ok thing to talk about.
honeythewitch thank you for your kindness. Yes I am finding it easy. Big but ... I have nerve damage and I am on a drug for nasty nerve pain, and yesterday I was reading up on side effects and found that it has been trialled for its anti-craving properties in alcohol abuse and addictions. I suspect that's contributing to my success more than the character and willpower that I got fat with. I was disappointed because i was starting to feel a bit smug...but then i thought dont be an idiot, ride the wave, and lose what you can while you're able to.
Once I worked with a hateful woman who had a gastric bypass and told all our colleagues she was doing it by willpower. I only knew because I had processed her sick note. It made everyone around her who was plump feel totally pathetic (and i had to maintain confidentiality). I dont want to be her. Rather be honest.
And I have felt really good on the intermittent fasting. I'm still very limited due to illness, but more energy - more positive. Interesting and I owe a debt of gratitude to frugallina for putting me on to it. Somebody said on the last thread that you shouldn't do when you're dieting what you wouldn't do ongoing. I feel I could do this ongoing, esp as I eat at teatime on fasting days which retains all the social and family aspects.
My milestone for today is ... I've just hit 25% of my total. So, if I can do the same thing again three more times I'll be starting the maintenance thread!!
Back to the mundane - food for today
Cheese scone with butter with friend
Veg soup, apple, kiwi, jelly and last bit of cream.A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks0 -
Hello x
I absolutely hate having my photo taken as I agree the camera angle adds pounds to your actual appearance - its how you feel inside that matters.
Ive just invested in a new pair of black trousers for the winter - i took a long hard look at my wardrobe and felt it was somewhat lacking in current sized clothes. I hope they fit !
Ive been active or should i say more active taking loads to the tumble dryer and round to the bin it still tires me out but slowly making progress.
Well done to those that have lost and STS - I consider that an achievement.
Kind regards xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone on here for being so kind and supportive, not only about everything, but also about my vegan diet. I really appreciate it as I don't always get such open minded and sensitive comments.
I weighed in this morning and have lost 0.5lb - I really expected more, but after the great losses I have had recently, I think my body is catching up. Despite tortilla-gate of Saturday night, my eating has been good and I have begun to exercise more, so I feel confident I am on the right track.
Brambling, I hate all photos of me because I tend to be goofy in company and I am usually caught at the precise moment that I am pulling a particularly weird face. And then the body, yes, I tend to focus on the bad bits. Silly really, because I wouldn't focus on a friend's so-called faults, I would just enjoy him/her as they are.
Tighteningthebelt - what a good idea, I shall keep the horrible photo of me, it can be my "before" photo!
Ohmygosh, what a great milestone - 25% is fantastic - well done, you are doing great and however it comes off, it still takes dedication and will power. :A
Molly41, you are doing great too with all your achievements, increasing your activity gradually is the safest way and it is great that you are feeling the benefits. Fingers crossed those trousers fit beautifully!
Today's food:
B: Very decadent overnight oats with some leftover blackberries from a jar that has been in the cupboard for too long. (The syrup includes gin, hence the decadence, not much, obviously or I would be a bit squiffy as I have no tolerance for alcohol at all)
L: I am going to make a big pot of carrot and coriander soup, some to eat and some for the freezer.I may have more of that soup followed by kidney beans, veggies and sweet potato. Followed by a pear.
Exercise has included a short bike ride and I will go for a walk later.31.5/1000 -

FrugalLina - well done on your 1/2 lb:T you have done so well the last few weeks your body is just adjusting to things. You are so supportive of others you need to remember to be supportive and kind to yourself as well
I like the idea of gin for breakfast
not sure if the boss would agree, I did ask my colleague in Paris if it was too early for gin at 10.00am as we are experiencing IT system issues her replied was 'weed maybe?'
Tighteningthebelt 25% :T I know they say there are so many benefits of losing 10% of our body weight for our health especially things like our blood pressure so well done you
Molly every wardrobe needs a pair of black trousers so versatile and hide a multitude of sins
Back to work and it's rainingso no lunchtime walk as the office is cold and I don't want to be wet and cold as well . I'm going out tonight to watch a play with my sister 'The Lady Vanishes' our Friends of the Venue Card means if you go on opening night for plays it's 2for1 so :money: although you can get teething problems but not usually for the professional ones.
B-Porridge, banana and blueberries
L - Lentil, sweet potato and pepper soup (wih very small amount of chorizo) - followed by an orange
D- something involving LO chicken and veg
S - nectarine & Sugar snap peas so farLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Gosh, I hope there hasn't been a misunderstanding... I've lost 25% of what I have to lose, which is actually only 7.5% of my starting weight.
Near to the magic 10% though.A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks0 -
Thank you Brambling! Gin for breakfast would be lovely, but probably not recommended. The blackberries didn't taste of gin at all, I think the most harmful factor is the sugar content of the syrup.
IT problems would require strong medication, however it is consumed!
Not so much rain here, but yes, it is cold. I hope you enjoy your play this evening, that sounds great.
Tighteningthebelt, I knew what you meant and 25% of the total you have to lose is very encouraging, it is good to see such progress.:T31.5/1000
