Ooh - another vote from me to say very much go for it with the Canterbury trip - everyone needs some fun at times - and it sounds like a lovely thing to do. Ignore the naysayers!

I wouldn't pay much attention to those who say don't travel on your own, it all depends on how YOU feel about it. I've only done European, but my sister she's 71 now has done the worldwide equivalent of John O'Groats to Land's End. (Alaska to Cape of Good Hope?) She has either 4 or 5 booked for later this year, postponed from the last 2 years, with 2 of them definitely not in Europe. Her only problems have been the airline losing her luggage from transfers in London. Oh & Sars in China, murders on the beach in Sri Lanka & a hurricane in Antigua. So never go to the place she has booked. Oh altitude sickness in Peru!! So if you are going there get your iron count checked as you need it higher there, they also expect it to be higher in the US too.3

I live in Kent @killerpeaty and used to work in the travel industry. Honestly, the fact that you can drive means that you're safer than most already. Just make sure you have people that know where you are and can check in with and keep to the more busy areas. It's definitely scarier travelling as a single female but i've done it both in and out of the UK and I think you'll be fine! Sorry to hear you're feeling low but a change of scenery can definitely help.3

I think being able to use central locking has been a real bonus. When I bought my current car the garage told me to get into the habit of locking the car as soon as I got in rather than waiting for it to cut in after I've driven off. Which makes absolute sense really because if you have just filled your boot with lots of shopping that time before you are ready to set off is when anyone could come & pinch stuff out of your boot or steal your handbag off the passenger seat.

Perhaps strangely I don't generally fear for my safety, even if I'm out by myself at night. I think I just wanted my friends' approval and when they weren't excited for me, I was disappointed and since I was feeling low it was just... Bleh.
Had a heavy week at work. Some people just try their best to have late accounts! Also had a bit of to-do at work, might have had an argument with one manager, walked out on another and then made a fuss at a boss. Since then everyone has been nice to me.
Measured myself today, 35inches which is the starting point but it was a more of a natural 35 inches since it was very tight the first time around! So not great but not a gain!
Can't wait until my holiday!2 -
If it's of any use, I'm in my seventies and regularly drive to Thanet alone; 190 mile round trip. I stay in a friend's empty flat for a few days alone and visit Canterbury, Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs alone. I regularly drive alone to Birmingham too, 240 mile round trip, visiting family there. Hope you have a great time in Canterbury.
