There are a great many fixed site ANPR camera that are totally independent and do not have the backup of other vehicles or traffic police.

    Of course they do.

Are you honestly saying that you think every fixed ANPR camera in the UK will have traffic police waiting to pounce as soon as a vehicle without valid VED, MOT or insurance is detected?

Even if they don't have a interceptor waiting on the other side, they will send the registered keeper a NIP and a massive fine, that will soon get them to stop.

10% is 10% whether the baseline figure is 60 or 60,000.
It doesn't what figure the percentage is based on, it still shows that your claim of London having a low % of uninsured drivers is wrong. London has one of the highest rate of uninsured drivers in the UK.

The share of London on that graph is 31.8%, the next highest is liverpool with 7.9%

The population in london is 8,136,000 (2011)

The population of liverpool is 552,267 (2011)

I would suggest that London having 14.7X the population of liverpool and only 4x uninsured driver incidences than liverpool it's pretty good going.

Per capita London deserves to be far lower down the table. In fact it shouldn't even be in the top 10.

Anyway, going back to the original point. How likely are you to be hit by an uninsured driver? I would hazard a guess and say that uninsured drivers aren't driving around 10K miles a year, commuting to their place of work. I would suggest that it's probably occasional drivers such as teenagers going joyriding in parents car, maybe insurance has lapsed for the driver and they're unaware, uninsured under technicality (SD&P cover only, and used for community), or car left under care of friend while on holiday and friend decides to drive it and gets stopped by police.

In most of the cases the insurance policy of the car will kick in, in the event of an accident. Even if the driver is uninsured, if the car is insured then it's still liable to pay for damages to third party if at fault.

That's the crux, were talking about being hit by an uninsured driver, which affects our NCB and premiums. If the car is insured then insurance company covering that car will pay out to third parties so your NCB protection wont do anything more than if you did not have it at all in the first place.

No, I'm not. Not all fixed cameras are police ones but their fixed cameras are read at a central point, usually their control room.
Even if they don't have a interceptor waiting on the other side, they will send the registered keeper a NIP and a massive fine, that will soon get them to stop.

Sorry to disappoint you but that doesn't happen.

And if as I mentioned earlier, what about all the vehicles that are not registered or have cloned plates?
Who will the NIP be sent to then?
  • SHAFT,
it would greatly help your credibility if you didn't argue for the sake of it and at least tried to keep your opinions constant.
When I wrote not all fixed ANPR cameras have police backup:
There are a great many fixed site ANPR camera that are totally independent and do not have the backup of other vehicles or traffic police.
You clearly stated that this was incorrect:

Yet when I asked you about this, you changed your stance to state that the police operated ANPR cameras will have police backup.

So either you have a very short memory span or more likely, you are simply trolling.
I know which one I think is more likely.

Vehicles that are not registered will be flagged with a police marker, they use police markers on known drug dealer/criminal cars and are higher risk. When it gets pinged by mobile ANPR it will get stopped by police.

Cloned plates are difficult to detect by ANPR, but in London they frequently set up random checkpoints and stop suspcious looking drivers. They have ANPR and a line of police standing one after another as you approach the checkpoint. The police are trained to detect shifty behaviour just like customs officers are trained to look for drug smugglers. People avoiding eye contact, giving nervous body language etc.

If they detect something is off, maybe bad body language, nervous driving, dodgy looking car they will pull over for the random inspection, make sure driver is insured on the vehicle, quick check on the road worthiness of the vehicle etc.

This discussion is going on ridiculous now, I concede, there will be some illegal drivers without license, without insurance on cloned plates that will be driving. What is the real probably of that driver crashing into you costing you to lose your NCB? Probably slim, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you want to keep paying to protect your NCB, by all means go for it.

My NCB protection is £150-£200. It's admiral, they'll give you a cheap price and charge you an arm and a leg for extras. I have saved over a grand so far and it works for me.

If I could get NCB protection for £1 I probably would. My limit is probably £40-£50. If the insurer was asking me to pay anything in that region of above for NCB protection I would decline in.

    YMMV.

My next door neighbour is a manager with a well known insurance company ( think of a navy senior officer) hes been there years.

My girlfriend had a bump in her car so I had a chat with him to figure out what to do for the best I soon figured out he knows very little about insurance he just sells it.

For me if you have a bump yes your premium goes up but Its still beter to get 70% off than 50% off.
