Hey Mr Expert Driver, what happens if the other driver is uninsured, or the insurance company disagrees with your assessment of your driving and decides you are partly at fault? What about a hit and run?

Uninsured drivers are very rare here in London where I live. ANPR will catch them and they won't drive for long. I am guessing this is probably the same elsewhere in the country.

The false "threat" of the uninsured driver is made up by insurance companies as a marketing tactic to get you to join because they cover you for "uninsured drivers". What are the chances of an uninsured car driving around for long in our surveillance state. If the driver was uninsured, but the car is then the cars insurance policy will kick in.

I drive defensively, rarely speed, and of all the near misses I've had in my long driving career. All of them, without exception were the other parties mis-step and they would have been at fault.

Even if I protected my noclaims and was involved in an at-fault accident. Do you think my protected NCD will preserve my premium if I had an accident? No, I'd probably end up paying the same as if I didn't have any NCD.

But......if you had a no fault crunch (parking for example) the theory is you could make a claim without losing your ncd? The premium may well go up but it's possible to do thousands in damage to a carbon fibre front end if you sneezed!
Maybe I'm missing something but it seems a good 'extra' to have, and probably the only one?
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

My car is old. Compulsary excess is £250. Short of the rear quarter panel, anything else can be bolted on from breakers yard for peanuts. So i wont really bs claiming for a hit and run. The drink driver hit and runs ice seen happened on street parking with cars parked on thd end of the bay. I make sure i never park on the end abd will park on another street if i have to avoid the end of the bay.

I think he refuses to believe the lies pedalled by the (biased) insurers :D

They reckon around 1 in 10 drivers are not insured.

The Police catch less every year. Depending on your level of optimism, it could mean there are less to catch, or simply that less Police on patrol means they catch less. ;)

The Government say it is entirely through the glorious success of the "continuous insurance" law :rotfl:
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

How can ANPR catch uninsured drivers if the vehicles aren't registered, the number plates are cloned or they are foreign registered vehicles?
As for uninsured drivers being rare in London?

    Is that a serious question?

    Yes.
I know that ANPR when being operated in a manned vehicle can easily catch offenders but unfortunately manned police vehicles are becoming rarer all the time and although there seems to be more and more fixed camera appearing over time, all these will be able to do is to register that an uninsured vehicle has just been past that camera.

The fixed cameras work in the same way.
