Hmm can I join in on this one? I would like to achieve a few things in 2008!

    1. Save a minimum of £200 towards a trip to Japan

    2. Not buy any more cross stitch stash but use what I have! (unless I really have to get something to finish a project off)

    3. Get the house sorted

    4. Lose 2 stone in weight

  • The Free Christmas challenge sounds like a way to free Christmas from an evil baddie in a film!

I am going to join in that and I have made a good start on Pigsback, lightspeed since I joined here but with a whole year then I should be able to do much better. My brother and his gf are both having zero cost presents this year.

I am also in the clear a debt (or 4) before April challenge. I would also like to see how succesful I am in this around Christmas time and then I will set myself a challenge, save X pounds, pay X of my mortgage etc
    Debt Free - done
    Mortgage Free - done

i was thinking of doing a make half your salary from nothing over the next year challenge. i dont know how feasable it wopuld be but thought it could be worth a a go as to me that would clear loads of debt and really bring forward my DFD. was thinking of doing iot through amazon ebay carboots and things like slice the pie and daily clicks. dont know if anyone fancies joining me on a year long challeng to earn half your salary from other things?

I'm seriously considering this one - having thoughts about looking for a new job and one of the main reasons would be for a better salary.. however there are things that make me want to stay where I am, the job has good benefits like flexi-time and I like most of the people.

If I could make an extra half of my salary in a year (about £8000) it would make a huge difference to paying off debts and doing more of the things I want to do like holidays and being able to go and see friends more often... is it possible though? Hmmmm.....

The save 1/2 your wages one sounds good but can you combine some of the others, i.e. Olympic Challenge, Sealed Pot, Free Christmas into it? I don't think I could do all seperately but I'd have a good try on doing a combined few.

Don't rule it out, I thought that about my current workplace, and I've just been offered a much better job, 9k increase (ok have to relocate but I knew that would have to be done sooner or later) and if anything better benefits - current workplace will be reducing the flexi by 1/2 - new workplace will have double current flexi and all staff in new place really nice. Whereas some of my current colleagues have not been as nice since I've said I was leaving and always complaining to the boss and lying about me

That's a good idea, using the other challenges as stepping stones towards the half salary one over the course of the year?

Thanks for the advice re the job as well - I guess you never know until you make that jump to something else! I'm definitely keeping my eye out for something better coming along :)

I wish I could go for the half salary option but seeing as how I don't earn a salary (DLA and Incapacity Benefit) I will stick with saving the change I think!

I managed £180.00 in about 6 months so I reckon my target of £200.00 for the year is doable!

I dont see why not! during the olympic challenge alot of us have had a loose change jar/moneybox/etc and at the end count it all up and add it to the total (which is the idea behind save the change) also I have counted all the vouchers from survey sites that have been used to buy presents and my quidco money (which is the idea behind the free christmas challenge) so I dont see why not!! :)

Looking forward to all this extra money making in 2008!
finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!

Right count me in for saving 1/3 of wages for next year - are we doing percentages to show our savings or how we going to show our results? I'm not going to say 1/2 yet as I know that I'll have more outgoings next year than this, but anything is a bonus isn't it :j

I'm hoping that my savings will go towards Christmas 2008 and I'm hoping to buy a house about October - December 2008 so that will go towards that too.
