Someone posted recently that when renewing his over 70 licence he was told to send his old licence and the new one would not be issued until the old one was received.0

My OH just renewed her photo licence at age 70, checking on-line the new licence was processed and confirmed valid the same day as the application, we are still awaiting the physical licence but it does say it can take up to 14 days.Others, including myself, have received the new licence without having to send the old one back first. The site to check your licence is:

When I began using Insulin I was required to declare it. I then got a letter from DVLA requiring me to return my licence to be exchanged for a Medical Licence. This arrived a couyple of days before Christmas and I was given 10 days to do so. Obviously that was of concern with it being Christmas, I rang them and they just said post it so I did. - it got there and I got my new licence around the 5th of January. Only difference is as I am over 70 the expiry date is different to the age related one.0

Have just received 70+ licence - renewed online, they used my passport photo - also online. Have cut up old licence. Will keep pieces in case they want to send a Freepost envelope - if not will throw away. Waste of money buying an expensive stamp, just for them to try and read my jigsaw (a bit hard to do) and then for them to throw it away. Would they really bother to do that anyway?
I think they just don't want you to have a whole licence around to be stolen?
