Keep it, at least until you get the new one. I have read about cases where entitlements such as motorcycle were missed from the new licence.
People who couldn't prove they had passed the test had to take it again.

I agree with basill. Don't send the old one until you have the new one, and checked the back to make sure they haven't made any mistakes.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

There aren't that many people who are under 70 and haven't moved house in the last two decades - and it's a number that's shrinking rapidly.

Just changed my car and the guy I showed my pink paper licence to said he's never seen one in such good condition (kept in the plastic wallet) as most are crumpled and torn. I'll be gutted when I have to change when I hit 70 :D
  • I never sent my old driving licence after change of address and I was quite happy with that, when I lost wallet half an hour before going to the airport to fly to USA. I was going to use DL with old address to rent a car, without it, I could as well cancel my holiday. Luckily someone found my wallet and contacted me before I left for airport. I still have old licence, just in case.

I have just renewed my licence because of a certain birthday coming up. I was also asked to cut my old licence in two and return it. A rather pointless exercise as it is very easy to Sellotape a paper licence back together!

Though probably not so easy to pass off two halves of a licence crudely sellotaped together as a genuine licence afterwards.
