  • Afternoon all :hello:

    Posting this while DS is napping - not sure how long it’s going to last so need to be quick to get on with today’s tasks.

    Started clearing out the garage ready for winter wood storage. This is DH’s domain and something that’s been neglected for a while, so it’s likely to take a good few weeks to get it done properly. Managed to clear out a bagful of rubbish; set aside an old hoover, kid’s bike, windscreen wipers and kids’ chairs to take to the recycling centre and started breaking up an old wooden bed frame and garden bench to add to the pile of firewood.

    Other tasks for today are...

    1. Check survey sites x3, PMP etc.

    2. Got an alert from MSE energy club to say I can now get a cheaper tariff for electricity - must investigate.

    3. All meals from stores.

    4. Load of laundry on quick cycle and then line dry (fingers crossed this weather continues).

    5. Take an inventory of food cupboard stores. I’m sure I can make a lot more meals than I think, which would help reduce the grocery bill this week and next. Current spend from DH’s shop yesterday was £54, leaving £16 to top-up as needed.

    I have also started a new debt-free diary - trying to keep the motivation going!!

    Enjoy the rest of the day :)
    Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.
    Debt at highest = £62,842.59 (Dec 2018) - now £38,266.22 (28.09.25)
    Mortgage start Dec 2024 £247,069.59 - now £243,150.28
    Mortgage overpayment total = £300
    Emergency fund £1006.63/£12000

    Afternoon all,

    LaE, If it was me, I'd go to them on xmas day but make sure you drop in conversation that next year you'll be having your Xmas day at home. I liked having xmas at home when the kids were little so that all their new xmas gifts were with them as when we were little we had to drive to one side of the family on xmas day and the other side for boxing day and we always felt like we didn't get any time to play.
    My kids will be 11 & 14 this xmas so the gifts are getting smaller (although expensive!)

    Toni'sfriend, great news!
    Trailing, I've just read your blog about name change, I changed mine by deed poll twice, once when I separated from ex husband and again when I remarried and it took many visits to the bank to get it sorted. This was 15 years ago though, I'd have thought that it would have improved by now!

    Todays list
    * two classes and refill water bottle at the gym Done
    * aldee for a big shop with my list - lots of staples needed Done
    * wash the blackberries dh & I picked on our walk round the block last night. Then freeze Done
    * message friend to confirm meet up Done
    * cook two chickens at once in the oven, cooking nowmy dad is here doing a bit of work in the garden so I'll pay him in cooked chicken! Done
    * check banking/update spreadsheet Done
    * open new regular saver accounts
    * wash a load on the quick 30 degree wash and hang on the line as the weather is beautiful Done and the ironing all done
    * run the dishwasher on the quick wash Done and empty Done
    * make families lunches for tomorrow Done
    * talk to ds1 about maybe cancelling a subscription
    * check off my cc statement
    ** rm surveys done
    ** made a chicken curry to use up the last of the chickpeas in the freezer
    **

    Thats enough to be getting on with. Take care all.
    Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Afternoon all!

    I hope you're all having a good day - even if probably not as good as Tonis Friend! Brilliant news!

    Today I have/will:
    * Check banks
    * Take sausages out the freezer for dinner
    * Take lunch to work
    * Work out what is going on with paypal (sussed it out but annoyingly when they do the "pay after delivery" option even if the money is in paypal, they still take it from your bank!)
    * Note dates that paypal amounts are coming out so I can transfer back to my account!!!
    * Go to gym at lunch
    * Check OP/ PA
    * Message friend about car service (her discount gets me it pretty much half price!)
    * Charge phone at work
    * Maybe put a wash on 30 degree eco (will see how much washing there is)
    * Make smoothies using frozen bananas
    * Re-use bags to freeze bananas
    * Dinner from stores
    * Wash hair and let dry naturally
    * Hang clothes on airer
    * Keep lights off to extent possible

    Think that's everything for today!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,435.00
    Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)

    Day two of my two days off this week. Got a lot done yesterday, but the hoovering didn't happen, so that needs to be done today. Another busy day ahead!!

    - take cat back to the vets - she may be anaemic, but he wanted her to complete the course of antibiotics she was put on last week before they do the blood test. Could be an expensive visit. Looks like she's on the mend, so no need for a blood test. So 'only' £27.
    - hoover and dust - Done. Go me!!
    - clean the bathroom Not yet...
    - empty the bins ready for bin day tomorrow Done
    - check the bank statement - I've had an email from the bank telling me there's correspondence waiting for me, so hoping that's what it is. It was and I have.
    - take mince out of the freezer for tonight's dinner. Done
    - on the back of my blog, I've been invited to write a couple of articles for the newsletter that goes out to National Trust volunteers, so I want to spend a bit of time thinking about what I want to write about and getting things organised. It's a volunteer role, but I get mileage paid - and I love writing! Next on the list.

    I was hoping to go Out, but looking at that list I don't think it's going to happen. Might manage a walk!! Got out for a walk - saw a kingfisher and bumped into a friend I haven't seen in ages, so happy with that.
    No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • Morning All

    I was a bit lazy yesterday so I'll have to make up for it today.

    So far this morning:

    Banking checked
    Plants checked
    Phone and tablet charging
    Medication taken
    Boy's bedding washed overnight and now hanging up drying
    Chicken defrosting for dinner
    Bread defrosting for lunch (sandwiches with salad and the rest of yesterday's cold meat)

    To do:

    Prep veg for roasting
    Ironing which I didn't do yesterday
    Clean bathroom
    Clean kitchen

    Himself's friend has cancelled today's day out as he has some kind of family crisis so I probably won't get as much cleaning done as I had hoped. Himself follows me around asking what I'm doing and generally gets in my way!! He's lovely really but such a hoarder.

    Anyway just had coffee so I'll get on. Have a productive day.
    Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

    * Do washing up
    * Pick blackberries if there's any left!
