What small DFW things will you do w/c 16th September?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!:money:

Morning frugal wannabes :hello:
Up early so thought I'd get us started whilst drinking a coffee. My list for today:
Tidy living room, it's getting on my nerves. Decluttering some gifted magazines to a place they will get read.
Start a charity bag
List a couple of items on fleabay
Make soup in sc for work lunches
Put a huge tub of washing away
Change my bed, need to wait for mr PF to get up though :rotfl:
Check banking, update sheet
Call a supplier and haggle
Research something on line for best value
Have a good day all. Purps.0 -
Morning all

Thanks for starting us off PF
Up early and have already done some stuff:
Emptied dishwasher and put some things in (unfortunately we only have room for a slimline one, and sometimes it isn't quite enough).
Washed some items up in the sink and cleared worktops
Got milk in off the doorstep and put it away
Put on a load of washing
Had breakfast, lots of HG fruit with some porridge and Lidl's yogurt. Felt decadent, but actually very cheap!
More coffee needed now, but after that I plan to:
Wash my hair and leave it to dry naturally Done
Put washing out on line and put in another load Done, first load dry, second load a bit damp, as it decided to rain against the advice of the BBC!
Fold and put away the bedding I washed yesterday, which was finishing off overnight on the airer. Only 1 item needs ironing :T (I don't bother to do the bedding
) Done, but haven't ironed the single item that needs it. It can wait till there is at least one more thing! Not worth heating the iron up!
Take some items to sales unit, in car ready to go Done, had a few gaps which is always good news
Still need to get some things in from the car though.
Need to finalise shopping list and do a Lidls shop Done, larder is bursting
Pick produce in garden Beans and raspberries today.
Make fish cakes for dinner, to use up leftover mashed potato Done, they were yummy. Used a small tin of tuna and a very samll tin of mackerel fillets, added parsley and a few chopped capers, coated with panko breadcrumbs - lovely with some chilli jam
And there are some left for another meal
Felt really tired this afternoon
Must be the weather!
Will see how I get on!
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all,
Gosh, you're up early, Purps!
I'm out & about more than usual this week, but not today & tomorrow, so am hoping to get plenty of stuff done. Today's money saving list:
*Transfer as much from the old broken freezer to the first of the new replacement ones as I possibly can. I don't want to waste any food.
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Water & feed veg.
*Get dinner into the slow cooker nice & early.
*Think about some good ways to use our pear crop, as don't really need any more chutney atm.
*Admin.
*Mid-month budget check-in & some funds to move around.
*Load washer for overnight laundry on the cheaper tariff.
*Knit more Christmas present project.
*See if I need to bake bread tomorrow & feed sourdough jar if so.
*Pay a few more 50ps into my sealed pot.
*Pack library bag for returns.
My aim, really, is to shift plenty of jobs today so as to free up tomorrow for projects/me time, so I'd better make a start.
Have a good start to the week, everyone.

Whatever else I can think of when the brain-fog clears.

Happy new week everyone! :hello:
Day off work and trying very hard to be productive whilst DDs are at school/pre-school, but just sitting down with my second cuppa of the day to re-group.
Currently in the middle of sorting through the mountain of toys that seem to have collected in the living room, despite my regular efforts to put them back where they belong (i.e. the kids’ bedrooms). Playpen has become a bit of a containment unit for all this stuff now that DS can easily climb out of it and it’s not good for much else. However, DH wants it packed up back in the loft to make some space, and the odd assortment of bits of toys/games that don’t match up is slowly wearing down any enthusiasm I had for the job.
As for the rest of today...
1, DH currently doing food shopping. I have everything crossed that he’s stuck to the list and is within budget (odds are about 50/50).
2. Need to upload receipts to reward app. DH has a stack hiding in his wallet.
3. Check survey sites x3, plus PMP etc.
4. Continuing to use up various bottles of lotions and potions during shower this morning. Still on Xmas gift sets, but supply running low. Good job it’s my birthday soon and everyone knows my favourite brand
5. Will be making up a large batch of hidden veg tomato sauce to use up some old veg. Planning on using it for bolognese one day this week, and as a base for a chilli another day.
6. More laundry. It’s never-ending. This is the bit they don’t warn you about when you’re planning having children.
7. Check banking and update spreadsheets. DH is owed some money from friends (about £120) and is too nice to bother them if they don’t pay it back when they said they would. I have no such problem :rotfl:
8. Clear out boot of DH’s car. I caught a glimpse yesterday and audibly gasped. I won’t bore you with the details but it’s definitely a two-person job.
Anyway, cup of tea now finished so back to the toy mountain I go...Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.

Afternoon all! Haven't caught up on the thread from the weekend so hope everyone is well.
I had a spendy weekend which has resulted in an "oh !!!!!! it" attitude. This must go!!! I know it doesn't sound much but I bought myself a bottle of pop this morning which is a habit I thought I'd broken!
Today I have/will:
* Check banks
* Not make lunch as bosses taking us out today
* Check OP/PA
* Update spreadsheet
* Snap receipt
* Text friend to see how much discount I can get on my car service (due beginning of Nov so want to budget now)
* See if my cousin is going to parkour and can give me a lift
* Dinner from stores
Hmm, that seems a very short list...Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,435.00
Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)0 -
Afternoon all and thanks to PF for the new thread.
Today I've done 2 classes at the gym and refilled water bottle there.
Updated banking spreadsheet (and got the kids to update theirs after the weekend spends)
Rehung some cupboard doors with the help of my dad (well he did it and I helped him actually!)
Moved some pictures on the walls as they weren't positioned right after moving furniture last week.
Used some rm survey labels to number up the marvel dvds we have so that we can easily watch them in order the next time we fancy it! ( bought lots of the dvds from cex - only 3 left to buy to have the set, so will keep an eye out next time I'm near cex)
Posted an rm survey item, updated correctly delivered and unaddressed surveys too.
Made families lunches for tomorrow using what we had, I had planned on going to the shop but decided to change what we were having tonight which helped me not have to go to the shops until tomorrow (so a NSD for me!! I don't usually count them but it made me smile today!)
Checked the fruit bowl and the pears were going over, so I've stewed them with a bag of odds and ends of fruit from the freezer. Its handy having a bag in the freezer to chop any fruit thats on the turn into and them make a mixed fruit pudding out of it! No waste here!
UPdated shopping list ready for tomorrow
Used reclaimed paper to send the school a copy of ds2s hospital appointment letter plus a cover note.
Still need to talk to dh about..
gift ideas for a family member - need to do this early so that we can keep an eye out for any offers.
Plus see if there is any other work we want to be done by an electrician as my dad had a look at two sockets I've had a problem with and he can't find a fault. If getting a leccy out, I want to make sure theres nothing else to be done.
In other news I've mentioned the C word to my dad, everyone has always come to us for xmas eve and stayed til Boxing day night but we'd like to change it this year. My dad said he'd happily have everyone to theirs
(he's said it would be nice to have everyone at theirs in the past but I've always resisted as it was easier here, bigger house, kids having their gifts here extra but they're older now so I've said we'll just do the xmas day with them and not stay over) I'm glad I spoke to him as its been on my mind since about Easter and I can stop thinking about it for a while now!
Thats it for me, Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
