    Thanks all!

joy of joys...another lockdown but at least I’m not back home with the kids off school again while trying to work!

Also gives more more adjustment time financially and also lifestyle wise. Would have been easier to fall into old ways with more freedom.

Going to treat this as time to get into cooking and exercise.

Did realise I need a new kettle...every time I use it the flat was plunged into darkness...was good fun trying to find the fuse box and figure out what the culprit was...

Didn’t wake up until 10am this morning as I didn’t set an alarm. Woke up in the dark (black out curtains) and as there was no screaming and shouting I assumed it was 6am or earlier...suddenly panicked when I saw the time ha. Such a good nights sleep though! The bed is really comfy. King size as well so need some new bedding. Still hasn’t quite sunk in that I’ve moved but I’m sure it will soon...

Desperately need the internet. For some reason mobile reception isn’t great here, think
its all the metal beams and possibly close proximity to lots of other flats etc. Paid for 5 days of BT Wifi but despite showing a strong signal initially that seems dire too...working today has been a nightmare. Mostly had to do emails from my phone as laptop was so slow.

Still need to sort out bills, set up gas and electric etc. Will attempt to sort that tomorrow as work is quiet at the moment.

Such a cool area, so quaint, it’s like living in a rom com with the narrow cobbled streets etc. Quiet but central. Still hasn’t sunk in where I am...

Flat sounds lovely and glad it is well kitted out. Hope the internet gets sorted. My nephew moves into his first place this week in South London and is worried about getting internet sorted too.

All sounds good apart from the kettle and internet. Hopefully that gets sorted on the 12th for you. In the meantime can you go to the office? If you can’t wfh you can just wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t even get in being the government 😆
  • Flat sounds great and sounds like you're mostly sorted. Internet is such a PITA to sort when you move! Hope signal on mobile improves today to help working 😆

    Thanks all!

Discovered signal is fine if I perch by the window so made a makeshift desk on the sofa until internet arrives on Tuesday ha. A bit weird staring out the window to see everyone else doing the same in the flats across the very narrow streets ha.

Just had to drive down south and back having accidentally ordered a load of household supplies to the wrong address ha. Nightmare. Shattered but on the plus side the traffic was non-existent. 4 hour round trip. No rules broken. Picked stuff up from the driveway. As a bonus auntie had picked up my coffee machine from grandma’s for me so got that too...much needed!

Turns out the flat needed more little bits than I thought, the sorts of things you only realise are missing when you go to use one, like peelers and chopping boards etc. Ha. Nothing unexpected though. So far spent about £200 but think I can leave it there for now. Some other small bits I might need but can cross that bridge. Needed things like washing basket for the ironing, airer, shower storage etc.

The irons look a bit shopworn but going to give the healthiest looking one a bash at the weekend and if it’s not terrible then I won’t get a new one.

Eventually want a Sonos Beam but I’ll leave that for now. Essentials only at this stage.

Finances looking healthy at the moment. Need to do a proper big shop. Bought some essentials but need the cooking staples like herbs, tomatoes etc. Thoughts here are start with a few dishes and build up a solid cupboard full and then add other bits as necessary.

Has anyone used Amazon fresh? It’s so convenient and found an article saying it is the cheapest of the online supermarkets, though it only compared branded products...what do people think? Otherwise I could drive and do a big shop at the weekend...it’s just the faff I can’t be bothered with haha. Especially when parking is 5 mins or so from the flat.

Settling in. It’s starting to gradually feel more like home rather than a dream ha. Just need to get into the cooking now as have so far had a couple of takeaways (first two days) and been eating very basic stuff...think beans on toast and soup ha. Just due to lack of shopping supplies as could only carry so much...

Amazon is good if you want branded stuff but it will probably cost more overall then doing an actual shop. Have a look though as ours offers Morrisons own items so then it's not too bad. Personally I prefer to go shopping myself then so online as had too many bad experiences with unsuitable foods.
Glad you are settling in well though and I think you will keep finding things that are missing for next few months. Reference herbs etc when I first moved I just brought them as I needed them and ended up building a collection over time and spread the cost. So make a list of meals you want to make for next couple weeks and what ingredients you will need and make a shopping list from that.

Tesco online have some weekly meal planners that may help to get you started.  Also have you thought about using Gousto or Hello Fresh!? They often have discount offers for new members. They don't really offer meals for one but you could make something and freeze it if possible?  We used them for a while during the last lockdown. I preferred Hello Fresh! to Gousto. We stopped using them due to the expense but I kept all the recipe cards from the things we enjoyed and have tried making them at home.
