efes_shareholder said:re the dating game , my other half is very old school and believes that the man should pay for everything , I am the opposite and feel that i should contribute and also be able to treat him from time to time. There is no way I could be comfortable allowing him to pay out for our meals and nights out solely. It was a bit of a battle in the early days but now he knows that when I say " Im getting this" at the end of the meal he needs to just allow me or if I suggest a takeaway I fully expect to pay for it.
There is no way on earth I would ever let him pay for our dinner on his birthday !!!!!
I work in a very male oriented environment and when I first started dating , the boys at work gave me the advice that I should always offer to pay my half of the meal on a first date however if the offer was accepted then do not see them again as if a man has a honest interest in you there is no way he will accept your offer.
Its stood me in good steed.
I do know alot of women who play the dinner game and in my opinion its shallow !!!!rugbymadfamily said:@ryanm8655 sounds like things are really coming together for you and your move - so pleased for you! I won't say anything about family other than agreeing with much of what has been said here!
Re kitting out the flat, definitely wilkos for glasses (their 50p champagne flutes and glasses look much better than the price suggests and they seem to be indestructible!). I've also got a cordless dyson, i bought a V7 just after they bought out the newest model cos the price dropped, well worth every penny for the ease of hovering.
Not sure what sort of car you have (decent new one or an older run around) but on my previous cars (old run arounds!) I've always just got re-tread tyres, never brand new. They work perfectly fine if most of your mileage is around town and just few motorway trips. Worth thinking about as think they about an third of the price of brand new.
Hope all goes ok over Christmas, get out for walks when you can, have a few glasses of wine and remember there are only a few days left before moving!!!
My car is nothing exciting, an old diesel A4 avant. Local place has Falken’s in stock, which are a reasonable midrange tyre. £240 fitted, really am haemorrhaging money this month, even my car is screwing me
Christmas has been alright so far! Family been a lot better and more relaxed. In some ways I think it’s good for them not having loads of visitors as their house is often the hub for everyone. There was another comment re: log burner yesterday when my uncle asked them about it but I just rode it out. It helps a lot knowing move date is close. Not been too bad on the booze so far. A couple of beers or a couple of glasses of wine a night for the last few days but nothing excessive, which makes a change for me at Christmas haha.

Family - they do sound particularly ungrateful tbh.
Ha everyone assumes it was me looking for the little wifey at home, really wasn't lol just how things worked out so you never know. That PA sounds like the dream though, shouldn't have let that one go good looking and got it together win win mate.
Re tyres - buy whatever the manufacturer recommends. I really wouldn't buy retreads. Some cars can be really tyre sensitive and will drive like a bag of !!!!!! on cheap tyres.
As for the car choices are you 100 sure you aren't actually a woman who works in hair and beauty? - Audi TT and a Cooper S FML mate I know you're a southerner but you need something with a proper engine that drives the right wheels.1 -

Yeah, she was a nice girl, same one that didn’t want kids ha. Might get back in touch when in London again. Wasn’t very ambitious though.
Tyres sorted, £240 for all 4. Car feels so much better. Needed 3 but thought it seemed silly to skimp on the 4th when it’d need changing soon anyway...braking much improved too. Not that I’ll benefit from it for long ha.
Ha! TT was basically the cheapest V6 sporty(ish) car I could find at the time. And the Cooper S was a good deal and god fun to drive. Was quicker than the TT as well despite being lower power. Also did 40mpg. Wouldn’t have another though ha.August 2019: £28.8k

Lol I can imagine. My wife thought my Sub was fake for a while FML never told me until she found the box etc and realised it wasn't. Tbf I was living in a proper building site at the time so probably money would have been better finishing that off quicker but not got the house anymore.
FML sorry but from what you've said on here your car history is shocking mate.1 -
A TT is my dream car but as a family of 4 not practical for me and I hate MrM's driving in his car. I have to have an automatic for medical reasons.
Onto vacuums, I have a shark cordless which is good and comes with two batteries so one can charge whilst you're using the other.
Good luck with the move. I don't work too far away, I'm just by the Gherkin although not back in the office until at least June 2021. According to Rishi Sunak I should have saved a fortune and be on a spending spree. These people have no idea how real people live 🙄.

Another £40 shop on top of the £240 on tyres.
Genuinely thinking of reducing the log burner money down. I suspect they’ll be annoyed but I’ve spent an absolute fortune on Christmas stuff. No thanks again. They’re buying the turkey tomorrow, which’ll no doubt cost a fortune...I think I’d rather sit at home aloneHaemorrhaging money and still feeling unappreciated/unwelcome.

Mate not sure things will be any different first part of next year unfortunately more in tier 4 today.
Can you pay log burner, move and buy everything you need for the flat? If the answer is no, I’d reduce log burner money, they’re just trying to get what they can now before you move imo. As you say feeling unappreciated anyway, what’s the point?1 -
Do reduce the log burner money.
Its nice to be generous but they are grabby and its not as if the money is truly spare. You need it.1
