Yes I think eBay has responsibility not to allow their system to be used by scammers.

This is a well known route used by scammers, why ebay keep allowing PP payment for collection in person ??

Your first statement is rather naive, perhaps you should say the various ISPs or search engines shouldn't allow scammers either. Scammers are a fact of life, it is easy for us to destroy their livelihood by just using common sense.

As for eBay and PayPal, again there is tons of stuff out there about the issue and reams of info about avoiding g being scammed, it's been on the mainstream news, it's been on TV programmes, if people bothered to read the sticky threads here about postage and the issue of collection only items they would be aware.

The collection only item thread for instance has work rounds, slightly contentious as it relies on scammers not making complaints through the eBay system, but a work round nonetheless. I would also suggest that no one, not even eBay can 'force' a seller to accept PayPal and hand over their goods to a scammer, do you really believe eBay are that powerful? I am often accused of working for eBay, and even I don't believe they can come round and physically force me to hand over my goods to a scammer.

This is all about responsibility , if you are dealing with a large amount of money it seems obvious that you would research how to get paid safely. The warnings are everywhere, at the point at which someone is warned in clear easily understood language that they stand to lose their money- why would they then go ahead anyway?

Comparing eBay with google and/or ISP is comaring apple and orange. You could not stop people using google as there is no credible substitute for it. Blocking ISP than eBay will collapse as peopple will not to access eBAy anymore.

Ebay could stop people using PP for collection in person items. There are a lot of business do not use PP.

Ebay has the duty of care considering there are a lot of victims.

    No credible substitute for Google?
    What about:

    https://www.bing.com/
    https://www.yahoo.com/
    https://duckduckgo.com/

To name only three that IMO are just as good, if not better than Google.

The eBay model is to make PayPal compulsory on all listings, therefore *all* businesses that use eBay accept PayPal. Obviously eBay cannot force businesses in the High Street or elsewhere online to accept PayPal, but if they want to use eBay then they take PayPal.

As per my previous post though, eBay cannot physically force someone to take PayPal on a collected item, nor do eBay force all business registered with them to use them for collection only item. I am repeating myself I know, but I would not use eBay for a high value collection only item, although some do and use the methods outlined in the sticky threads I keep posting to avoid being scammed. eBay really are not that powerful that sellers cannot go elsewhere.

    using their platform?

How many people use google and how many people use the above search engine you mentioned. You will realize that a lot of people do not agree with you.

If you follow the discussion you would have seen that the discussion is about the well known scammers route Pay by Paypal for collection in Person item". It is not about stopping ALL of the potential scammers. You simply can not.

It is the same thing with road safety if you know there are already a lot of accidents in particular road, junctions, etc, something need to be done to avoid further victims, especially if there is a simple solution for it. If will not help by keep blaming the victim just saying, it is your fault.

Any organization has a duty of care, let alone a multinational company like eBay. And there is simple solution for this. Stop allowing PP payment for collection in person. There are a lot of business do not use PP. Collection In person is only a factional of ebay entire business.

IMO eBay keep doing this as they might have arrangement with PP even though they have split to become a separate entity.

    This news proves that.
    https://www.geekwire.com/2015/everything-you-need-to-know-about-ebay-and-paypals-split-and-how-it-impacts-amazon/

"EBay and PayPal will operate under a five-year agreement that will guarantee a reliable source of revenue for PayPal after the separation"

EBay shareholders will receive one PayPal share for every eBay share they own as of July 8
  • Last year on Rip Off Britain, exact same cases were featured; a man sold four tyres on eBay, payment via PayPal followed by claim as well as a lady selling expensive jewellery, PayPal payment, collection from home followed by claim for not having the goods. In both cases PayPal had in the end backed down when CCTV proof was shown. Sellers threatened to take PayPal to court and it never got as far as that.
I think I still have email address of the guy in charge in Luxemburg who sorted my case when buyer tried to scam me and PayPal behaved appallingly.
